Hosting a server?

#1

Post by zeating » Mon Aug 13, 2012 4:31 pm

I'm trying to host a server with brutaldoom for me and a friend to play co-op with. I tried using regular skulltag but it doesn't show up in the master list and it when I try to join my own server it says make sure i'm using the same wad's as the server.

I would read some guides for skulltag but they're all for 2008 or something and isn't quite relevant for today. Is there any easy guides for Zandronum/skulltag to get a simple coop server up and running? I'm using DMZ mode, by the way.

To be honest, I don't have much experience with hosting and I also had trouble with the whole "make sure you're using the same wads as the server" thing. If we're talking about Doomseeker here, I circumvented that by not adding the PWADs through the "additional wads and files" list, instead, I go to the custom parameters and add "-file wadname".

Servers you host may not show up for you but that doesn't mean that no one else can see it. I got a very useful post from an old thread.
Zalewa wrote: For other people to see your server you need to forward necessary UDP port to your local area network. The default port for Zandronum is 10666. Every router does this differently so I can't tell you exactly how to do this. Look for tabs that are named NAT, Port Forwarding, Routing, etc.

For you to see your own server you need to add it to the custom server list. This can be done from Doomseeker configuration box. Just add server with address 127.0.0.1.

To check if people can see your server type in the server console sv_showlauncherqueries 1. If they do then launcher challenges from various IP addresses should start to appear within a few seconds.

One thing:
If you host a Skulltag server, you have to change the master server IP address. It launches by default with the old master. Try this command:

Code: Select all

skulltag_MasterIP master.zandronum.com
Otherwise no one will be able to see your server.
If they still can't see it, then you need to portforward whatever port you're using for your server (not if you're on DMZ), and make sure your firewall isn't blocking the program/port.
