Fire =/= respawn!

#1

Post by Nati46 » Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:23 am

There has been a feature which has been a little annoying at times and I am sure that some other people have fallen victim to it - Pressing fire to respawn.

For example, whenever I am in a SSG vs BFG Fight (Let's say I am the SSG player, or any other weapon for that matter), and lose, what usually happens is that since the fire button was pressed when I was trying to kill the opponet unsuccessfully, I respawn again without my intention, only to die again by a quick BFG blast!
Obviously It would have been better if I could not accidently respawn by pressing "fire", and only respawn by pressing "open", as in to wait for the opponet to stop shooting the weapon / moving to a less vantagous spot.

This only exists in skulltag currently, and I think that removing it (or making it a toggled option client side) would improve Zandronum even more in its competitive side.
Other peoples' opinions are welcome.

Yeah that is pretty annoying, maybe not letting someone respawn for a few seconds would sort it.

I don't think that's good. Because at some cases you do wish to spawn very quick so that the enemy canot reach a vantage point fast enough - this would make maps like d2m1 and judas too easy to spawn rape at. There is a DMFlag for delaying spawns afaik but it's not commonly used.
Simply disabling or making the fire button respawn as a toggle option would solve all of this easily.

Vanilla doom allows you respawn instantly.
The only limit to my freedom is the inevitable closure of the
universe, as inevitable as your own last breath. And yet,
there remains time to create, to create, and escape.

Escape will make me God.

A +respawn command could allow players to program any behavior they want; they could respawn with use, fire, or any other key, or even all keys. They could respawn whenever a button is pressed, or only at the instant it's first pressed, or always respawn at the earliest opportunity without any additional input.

I already added cl_respawnonfire to 98e a while ago, so in Zandronum just set "cl_respawnonfire 0" and use "use" to respawn.

It's like Torr's gone through time to add in the past what people ask for now.
