Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
Re: Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
If you haven't done it since (3 years is a long-ass time) that should factor in as evidence you won't do it again?

This is true, but then it also means you went unpunished which can encouraging others to do it. The other issue is that if you needed to confess to something no one knows then how do we know you aren't doing it again?Marcaek wrote:If you haven't done it since (3 years is a long-ass time) that should factor in as evidence you won't do it again?

You don't need to beat around the bush -- here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuRfFWVlpNY
This happened four years ago, and it was common knowledge at the time. If you want to ban me for it though, go right ahead. I'm sure this community would be much better off getting rid of toxic and spiteful players such as myself who have done nothing but negatively impact the community, and not foster a welcoming atmosphere for new players!
I'm sure the Zandronum staff will decide on a good punishment, as they have done for the countless other players who have been banned for 5 minutes and then unbanned.

Re: Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
It was common knowledge and surprisingly you didn't get banned. The way you speak about it is almost as if you are trying to justify it as being done so long ago. Your situation is nearly identical to Capo's.Jenova wrote:You don't need to beat around the bush -- here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuRfFWVlpNY

Perhaps you can shed some light on the instances when you performed DDos attacks against my brother and Mobius? Don't be afraid to splurge the details because I can assure you, those attacks are not common knowledge.
I'll give you that fact that you've done the community a great service by hosting best-ever. But you can drop the disingenuous act because you yourself have not always been such an upstanding, model community member during your entire time in the community that you try to paint yourself out to be these days.If you want to ban me for it though, go right ahead. I'm sure this community would be much better off getting rid of toxic and spiteful players such as myself who have done nothing but negatively impact the community, and not foster a welcoming atmosphere for new players!
Yes, because master banning doesn't exist and Galactus' ban was only for 5 minutes. Well done.I'm sure the Zandronum staff will decide on a good punishment, as they have done for the countless other players who have been banned for 5 minutes and then unbanned.
Re: Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
Of course I am at the mercy of the staff, I'm not pretending to on some moral high ground. If they genuinely believe I should be banned for what I did 4 years ago then yes, go ahead and ban me. I do believe that this four year period has led to a drastic change in my attitude. Sure, I'm still an asshole and I'll call you retarded all the time, but I don't do this without justification.
I am generally just very disappointed with the way the staff deals with things. I will elaborate on this more elsewhere, and I obviously haven't won myself any friends with staff members by calling half of them retards that are incapable of thinking for themselves. I say these things not because I dislike the staff members (although I agree that I generally go overboard and start hurling insults when there are better alternatives) -- they are good people who I believe genuinely want to do well. I just believe that I'm brutally honest and if I believe (my opinion, of course) that they are doing a bad job then I will try my best to bring this to light.
I'd like to think that Capo ddosing and me ddosing are two different cases under two different circumstances. Obviously I could sit here and make excuses for days about what I did four years ago and try to justify it, but I realize it was a shitty thing to do which is why I promptly apologized to Legion and have not done it since.
A lot of people think ddos (or dos) is very serious -- and it is. In fact, my Ragnarok Online server being ddos'd has caused me to lose hundreds of dollars because I had to pay for special routers, firewalls, and bandwidth if I wanted to keep my players happy. I have even ddos'd Filipino players who were ddosing my server in retaliation to get them to stop. I know this is vigilante justice and usually frowned upon but this saved me thousands of dollars in the long run. Capodecima, in addition to ddosing players, has been accused (and probably) cheats, but there is absolutely no definite proof to go on about this. In addition, Capodecima is a low quality contributor to this community -- conversing with Capodecima usually only leads to headaches for both parties.
Once again, if they think that what Capo did recently and what I did back when are both justifiable grounds for banning, then I'm not going to complain. I do believe however that my track record and reformation absolutely without should be taken into consideration, and I don't believe something stupid that I did as a teenager should be held against me four years later.

Re: Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
As far as Capo's ban is concerned, I can't say that I'm particularly sad to see him gone, but I don't think that permanently banning him is a good idea. To be frank, I don't think permanently banning anybody for any reason is a particularly good idea - "permanent" is a long fucking time, and people sometimes do change for the better. I'd suggest starting with a year, and reset it for the ban to start anytime he is caught evading or threatening to DDoS somebody else. Knowing Capo, that will likely keep him away for considerably longer than one year.
If you and I are thinking of different incidents that I am unaware of, of course, that's a whole other kettle of fish.
I was under the impression that aside from the Legion incident, Mobius and one other person specifically asked for Jenova to demonstrate his DDoSing capabilities. In fact, I have somebody who was there who can attest to that.Ru5tK1ng wrote:Perhaps you can shed some light on the instances when you performed DDos attacks against my brother and Mobius? Re: Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
I'm uncertain if Mobius asked for it and since Jenova failed to elaborate when I asked, who know? It could be someone entirely different and honestly, does it really matter? That's akin to someone saying a player was asking him to cheat in a scrim. It doesn't matter what type of 'justification' there is because cheating is still cheating just like a DDos attack is still a DDos attack (and illegal).AlexMax wrote:I was under the impression that aside from the Legion incident, Mobius and one other person specifically asked for Jenova to demonstrate his DDoSing capabilities. As for my brother, I recall the details that were told to me (I wasn't home) and the story goes that Jenova banned and then DDos'd my brother after he took over his teamspeak server. Apparently, the BE teamspeak had custom server group icons that for some reason had root admin power (failure to set up a server right). Jenova got banned by my brother and had to dig into the server to remove the groups, un-ban himself, and then perma ban Strangle. I don't know what the cause was or if it was a joke gone too far, but the outcome was yet another DDos attack by Jenova.

Well as I said I do not believe it to have happened that way. I'll do what I can to recollect the event so I do not disparage Jenova unwarrantly because DDOS is a serious issue.AlexMax wrote:I'm curious, what is your recollection of it, then?Mobius wrote:I do not believe I asked for a demonstration

Re: Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
Capo came threatening to DDOS me at work and claimed he still had his DE servers for DDOSing and was going to leave it in "DDOS" mode 'forever' on me.
I forwarded it to the staff and he's g-lined on IRC now. He ban evaded after the g-line and kept asking for my IP, the staff have the logs.
I guess this ends the legacy of Capo for a really long time.

Aight, this is becoming a cluster fuck.
First lets address immortal. We actually revoked his ban after further investigation of Raz's internet connection. (yes we thought immortal was ddosing him seeing as he was in the server with him when he threatened to ddos at the time) Raz is fine for now guys and I am keeping an eye on it. Note that if you do threaten shit like this and I catch word, I normally will ban you. Dont say stupid shit like that. It's serious enough as it is.
Anyways Alexmax, I am not swapping capos ban over from a perm to 1 year. Reason is not only he got glined on irc because he threatened water to ddos him, he also ban evaded that gline. He is also known as a security risk now. Refer to https://zandronum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7038
As for Jenova well... we are looking 3 - 4 years ago. Is there any more evidence of this for me to go "I should pursue this further" ?
Also back then was this incident reported to staff at all?

I don't really see the need to pursue something that old at this point.
Capo brought it up recently and went right back to harassing/threatening it immediately, I haven't seen Jen mention doing it or anything like that for years

Different administration back then (Metal), but I personally didn't pursue it either at the time. Legion made a video about it and as such nothing came up so that's beyond me.mifu wrote:Aight, this is becoming a cluster fuck.

Re: Capo DDOS attacks on Zandronum tournaments
I dont think the incident was properly reported. At the time there wasn't any precedent for individual attacks such as the aforementioned ones. Sure those who executed attacks on servers and such have always been banned. Regardles, the affected parties most likely didn't pursue the issue because there was no way metalhead and that particular group of staff would ever ban Jenova. As for Jenova well... we are looking 3 - 4 years ago. Is there any more evidence of this for me to go "I should pursue this further" ?

@tta
Are you insinuating the staff knew about the attacks back then?

Preempting autism accusations, I've read Jen's post as "I've done this much for the community — ban me and it will be gone".
Not directly, but this meaning is definitely there, aside from appeal to emotion and conscience.
