I would like to complain about pub ctf

Getting fed up with pub ctf is redundant as there are no real qualities about pub ctf that most players can enjoy. However there are some aspects that really throws the monkey on my back that I just can't understand why or how people still manage to do things like this. Keep in mind I do speak of pub ctf running any idl related ctf wad.

Map Voting I am pretty much sick of hearing 'vote now' over maps that I actually want to play besides generic 01, 04, (08), 20, 29, 31, or the occasional asshole joker with map14. This is made even more annoying when there is a perfectly good 8vs8 going and the map is map11, which is the best time to have a matchup that big, buuut no instead I gotta play 31 with 16 players. I know what you're thinking, if the playerbase doesn't want to play these maps why don't you just vote no? [cuck]Well players like me who don't give too much of a crap tend to just remain silent about it,[/cuck], I will throw in my verdict every so often, but during games people don't pay attention to the top of the screen to register their vote. I would very much like to just remove map voting altogether, but I do understand that some maps can come into play with the inappropriate amount of players. I had a solution I talked over with Alexmax, a while ago, whom could not really help me yet I have actually tried to exercise the idea lately. I thought of writing a cvar that would count the amount of players currently in-game and at the end of the match would remove or add maps into circulation from the amount of players within the game on the score screen. For example if the game ended in a 3vs3 then small maps like 31, 17, 05 would be in the map pool then map voting could basically be removed and not worried about. This is a dream of course however I still hate how every other game in pub is resolved with a map vote. Playing on the same maps over and over just because it's the only map players can play decently on will not make them better. One must make them self versatile by playing a large array of maps and getting decent on them.

The majority of the time spent playing pub is spent usually hoping for a better map after the completion of the current one. Removing the ability to just skip to the next map will keep this idea going.

Overjoining the wrong team... My god this still exists, in the port where there is LITERALLY a button that will auto sort players into a team and this shit still happens ??? Look guys here is what it looks like when players press 'jump' in a ctf game:

Image

See this top option? This option will force players onto a team that is either down a guy, or has a score disadvantage. Unless those players are intentionally trolling, games should not start with an immediate unbalanced team, this is fucking simple people get with it.

Lastly players joining to talk this is really simple, stop doing that, people are waiting to play.

I know this won't be the quintessential point where pub ctf changes. I can stand the spam and the spawn fragging and the idiotic playerbase, but most of these problems are just from careless and stupid players who don't even understand how to put their pants/trousers on.

1. Ok don't be silent then and vote no. If you take out map vote you have to play sewers smell shitty and then pub dies.

2. http://zandronum.com/tracker/view.php?id=1776 http://zandronum.com/tracker/view.php?id=389 get these to happen (1 is even your ticket!!!)

3. Playerlimits in pub suck anyway, the idl 64 player pub (ON MAP31) was one of the most exciting games ever, not with 'omg this map was made for 3v3\4v4\1v1!!!' going on. Pub is already chaotic, don't pretend its supposed to be structured and stuff like priv.

Back in the bronze age when I played pub CTF on ZDaemon, some of these issues weren't that big of a deal. There was no map voting so most of the maps got played and if people didn't like a particular map, they either ran the map (let 1 team get 5 flags without resistance) or it got played with a smaller group of people. Some maps were excluded from rotation like The Floating Cities or Earthquake's giant ass castle map.

Teams sizes were balanced so that if you joined a team that had a player advantage, you would get shuffled to the other team. Simplistic but it worked decently back before the balancing got extended and resized teams according to additional criteria.

Unstructured is not the same as chaotic. Pub should be the former not the latter. Think if terms of extremities. On one side you have same old static structure of Private CTF and on the other hand you have the kind of chaos that happens when you shove 20 players on Generic Gray. Ideally pub should aim for the middle ground and not towards either extremity. Swaying to either side every now and then, of course, is expected.

Water actually mentioned adding such a feature into Zan at some points.

heh

For what it's worth I used to always complain about this, and even asked for map voting to be disabled as a sort of trial run in NJ. Remember arguing in IRC with Jenova about the map voting issue in pub and nobody seemed to give a shit back then, sadly I doubt nobody really cares now either.

Need to revitalize pub.

Sure it's a clusterfuck sometimes but I've had a lot of fun in the past.
