Zandronum is now on Evolve!

Evolve is a fairly new video game-centric, multi-function client that has an assload of pretty awesome features. It has a growing community, and the app supports a staggering number of games. It's features are as follows:
-
  • LAN Tunnel (Like Hamachi, But Better.)
  • Party System/Matchmaking for any game
  • Twitch Broadcasting
  • AIM, Google Talk, XMPP, MSN, ICQ, and XFire support for IM Chat
  • Game Tracker (Tracks how long you've played)
  • Player List (Find others who play a particular game)
  • Groups (Like Steam Groups)
  • Per-Game Forums
  • Screenshot Tool / Video Recorder
  • In-Game Overlay (Access all features from in-game, such as a web browser)
  • Voice Communication (VoIP)
  • The ability to disable any feature you don't want.
I recently written detection rules for Evolve and submitted them, they have now been accepted. This means the overlay will work with it, and if you have the Evolve client running, it will automatically track your playtime, and allow you to broadcast virtual LAN parties for matchmaking. Oh, and you'll be able to find other Evolve users who play Zandy. (I think this also carries over into stream broadcasting too, not sure yet.)

Also, there's now a group for the Doom Community in general: https://www.evolvehq.com/groups/doom-evolved

You're welcome.

(Currently it isn't tracking games launched from IDE while DoomSeeker works fine, this is an issue with IDE, not Evolve. I left a bug report here: http://doomutils.ucoz.com/forum/3-94-1 )

Hmm... Its supposed to auto detect right? It doesn't seem to want to detect Zandronum.

Pff.. come to find out that in order for the overlay to work, you must have Windows Vista or newer.. Ohwell, XP is officially ded, but until I can get myself a new pc, I'm pretty much fucked. :/

You aren't really missing much. Unless you want the overlay to track your hours played :P.

Well I didn't really try it but I know Evolve's use because it installs itself when you update AMD drivers with a tiny checkbox that is very easy to miss :_.

Evolve has only two things for a game anyway :
A) Tracks hours played..
B) Some optimization things which never even came close to be the best quality\performance configuration.

Tbh I'd rather keep evolve off. Unless you want to get points and use them for a 1\10000 chance to get free games its just a gigantic waste of cpu.

The database hasn't been updated yet. They're working on it. They're taking a long time because the process to adding the games is manual, and they have a lot of requests at the moment. It *has* been approved however.

You can manually add it for now if you want, by going to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Echobit\Evolve, and editing gamesdb.xml, and adding this code after the last game entry:

Code: Select all

	<game>
		<id>4222</id>
		<name>Zandronum</name>
		<conditions>
			<cond name="is-zan-exe-present" type="exe-present" exe="zandronum.exe"/>
			<cond name="has-zan-pk3" type="file-present" file="{exedir}\zandronum.pk3"/>
		</conditions>
		<detection>
			<variant order="1" name="default">
				<if cond="is-zan-exe-present"/>
				<if cond="has-zan-pk3"/>
			</variant>
		</detection>
	</game>

What? You're not really making much sense. Also, the overlay and game tracking are two separate things. Free games for time played? Nothing has ever been mentioned about this in my use of the program. Also, what is this optimization thing? Are we even thinking of the same program? I'm thinking ATI must be distributing something with a similar name. Evolve doesn't even much much CPU either. Sounds like you're describing Raptr, not Evolve.

Two things for a game? How about matchmaking for any game, LAN tunneling, Twitch/Hitbox broadcasting, FPS Meter, and a whole slew of other things?

Install Windows 7 32-bit, and turn off the visual bells and whistles and disable all but the necessary services. You'll get an OS that'll run about the same as XP, possibly better.

Don't use notepad (It's a piece of shit), use Notepad++. Notepad lacks the ability to read line endings properly, for a lot of files.

Based on your description, Evolve reminds me of XFire. I remember that Skulltag was on XFire. I haven't used XFire since well before Zandronum. How is Evolve like or unlike XFire?

Funnily enough, Evolve supports XFire chat. But, it's different in that adding support for new games is easier, and it provides it's own replacement for Hamachi that is a lot less restrictive. Any other things I listed on the first post that aren't on XFire are also available.
