Coop game saving

Okay, it's now 2015. This is one of the most versatile games I've ever seen. Insane amounts of things can be done to this game that the developers never dreamed of back when they first programmed it in the early 90s.

There has to be some way to save a coop game by now. Something. I mean, it's clearly possible in other games. In Tropico 5, when the host saves a game, it gets saved to all user's computers. Or in Darkstone, another 90s game, the host would save and then the other player would need only join on the host when he ran it again.

Is there anything at all that can be done to save my game of Hexen I was playing with my friend other than having to leave our games on (leaving the server on is not a problem really but the games can bog stuff down).

If not I will cry quietly because I am not smart enough to program things myself.

You can look into the new database system if you are going to make your own saving system.
I do think there exist something called "coop stats" or something similar here on the forum, thiugh I do not know if it works with hexen.

I wish you the best of luck :)

I believe that vanilla DOOM actually did support multiplayer saves.

Not sure if Zandronum still allows that or not, though.

... No.

Zandronum/Skulltag replaced the old netcode with a handwritten server/client one. One that was never designed for mid-netgame saving.

So it's probably not going to happen.

That's pretty sad, in my opinion. Not dissing any of the fine developers of this port, but come on lol.
I'll look at the database system or whatever you were talking about, but I still can't program beyond ACS scripts so I promise absolutely nothing. If anyone is gonna do it, it'll be someone else sadly.

I thought there was a console command where you can save the map in its current state though, or something like that. And like you could drop all your guns and items and run the command until you play again then just pick it all up or something.

I'd prefer if you'd refrain from comments like this as long as

holds.

Anyway, if you just want to play with one friend and don't need ingame joining, use ZDoom's P2P multiplayer. IIRC it still supports saving and loading.
