Could we have a web based server list?

Something like this:
http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena

This way we would only need to start a launcher when we had a specific server in mind to join.

Possible.
But would anyone be prepared to do it?

i think the real question is "does anyone care enough to do it"

To be honest this is just lazy, I mean come on, are you too lazy to left click twice on your launcher and look through servers that have players now ? This is totally unnecessary and the staff should direct their efforts on something more productive.

If someone from our community wants to build us a system that just works with the master server protocol like that, we can probably host it on site. But there are no plans to deliberately work on something like this in from either our web staff or our developers. It's too much of an undertaking for little gain.

Well, the source is there.
If anyone could at least be able to at least have the binary print the server's data to a .csv file every minute or so, feel free.

I think it would be cool. Would be even cooler if the links to the servers were of something that Zandronum could use to launch and connect to a server, like... zandro://68.211.213.102

No, it's a beyond a waste of resources. A person who'll do this is most likely have nothing better to do. We already have IDE and Doomseeker... why in the heck would we need this?

Doesn't seem like something that's really all that necessary to me either.
But some people do want it and if there's someone capable of doing it who wants to take the time to do it, I see no reason why they should be stopped.
It's not like hosting it would require our utmost constant attention that would take time away from other things.

Well speaking of useless projects, do we want a new Twitter account?

I just know c++ and a bit of SDL so no :p
maybe with a java launcher it would be nice, you select the server online and he start zan... It would be like the doomseker/ide, but it´s a online version that can save some informations on the pc (like port folder, wad folder, nickname,...)

Doomseeker has a protocol handler mode so there's no need to store any settings on the user's computer.

I see the appeal of such a centralized system. It prevents all the weird 'I SEE NO SERVERS' derps on IRC. On the other hand, should we really put effort into it?

I have been meaning to share my input on this subject for some time, but I have been busy with other projects.

There is some potential gain with this idea, infact - this would lead into a new future for Zandronum's online experience. Having the full availability to join game servers that is available on the main site by using the official Master Server, would allow users to simply point-click-and-go, adjacent to QuakeLive's server sided game browser. Furthermore, this could further expand into client profiles and settings through a portal aswell and allowing any user to join into a server remotely without having to be on their primary computer or any device that is compatible with the Zandronum engine. Of course the Zandronum's hosted resources would greatly escalate to store all of the users settings and profile, but the fact remains that in any location - the user can play on Zandronum's servers at any location, at any time, and from any system that is compatible with Zandronum engine. Additionally, those that still prefer to use their client based applications should not be forced into the server sided game browser. Forcing users to a change should never be in mind. Thus if users are contempt with using their programs - leave them be; the options are always available for the users, and options and customization should be the key. On the contrary, I do not believe that Zandronum is ready for this system right now. At the current time, Zandronum is still in Alpha stages with no official builds, and migration to the new port is going to be rather rough on users that are still out of the loop about the alterations regarding SkullTag. Moreover, as this idea is rather big, so is project and design of the server side system. Thus, it would be best that one or preferably a group would start working on main concepts of the system and later on - work on necessities of stability and compatibility through abroad internet browsers and communication. I would guess that a half working design of the program would take roughly a year, by which - could be long enough for when a new official build of Zandronum is available. Through out time, this project can greatly alter the experience when viewing the game servers on Zandronum and would inevitably change the only experience.

This is useless!
What if one server with wanted wad is empy but another is filled?
You join to play and nobody there but there is a server near that is filled by players! And you can't see it!
