I'm curious to know how many people used a mouse to play doom before it was possible to enable free looking, in other words before DOSDoom or other source ports that enabled free looking were compiled.

I'll add a third option to the poll, so who didn't play doom before a source port came out can vote as well.

Feel free to tell us why you did or did not use the mouse. If you didn't play doom before 1999 you've gotta do 200push-ups in a row because you're not a doomguy/doomgirl!

in 1999 I had yet 7 years to obtaining home computer ;) Damn rich American kids, they don't know how I had to walk 20 kilometers in a snow to play Mortal Kombat III in 2005...
I did played original binary though, and thanks to this (mouse was pretty much useless) in first five years of using source ports I was using goddamn arrows and was very surprised why everyone else moves so fast. Though, now when I play original binary on DOSBox, I use novert.

this, and no i didnt originally use a mouse even if i discovered doom sometime in 2000/2001 (vannila)

I can't change the poll's options so if a moderator can, please change the first two options with "Yes I did." and "No I didn't.".

I always used the keyboard for Dosdoom, and even later when it was just Doom95, I didn't start using the mouse until I found JDoom, this being years before I came across ZDoom just to play Hexen.

Doom has always been keyboard only for me until I discovered Skulltag.

I think I originally just played with arrow keys, didn't even strafe.

I've been using the mouse since I first played Doom 2 back in '95. My brother often played keyboard only when we were little but still started using the mouse before we discovered source ports.

I played keyboard only for one year on Zdaemon thinking that everyone else also used keyboard only since their F12 was so broken that it wouldn't show people looking up or down.

New pool option needed: I found DosDoom after ZDoom and Doomsday(or on 2012), and I started using mouse when these sourceports were downloaded to my PC.

I mouse'd up when I found ZDoom.

That was 2004 I think.

Of course, for other games I mouse'd up when Quake came out.

I used a Gravis Gamepad (the one with 4 buttons) for Doom until I discovered a port with free look.
