Mouse inches per 360 turn?

#1

Post by Nati46 » Tue Oct 01, 2013 12:58 pm

So I've been talking with a few people regarding how sensitive their mouse is ingame, and I've been wondering what most Zandro players' (most importantly competitive) sensitivity is like.
Now, Posting DPI/Sensitivity alone is not very accurate because there are different factors including resolution and windows sensitivity which can drastically throw this measure off. Instead, a more intuitive and simple way would be to simply launch a game, put a ruler above your mouse when the 0 inches/CM mark is at the middle or whatever reference point you choose, aim at a certain point and rotate the mouse until you rotate exactly 360 and thus return to the initial position ( try and decrease the vertical movement of your hand by as much as you can).
Note the distance and there you go. (also mention whether you have acceleration on or off)

My sensitivity is about 2 inches per 360 turn, which is mainly due to the fact that my desk is pretty small and I don't have much room for both my keyboard and my mouse. I've been hearing about people with sens' as high as 12'' per 360 which kinda puzzled me, and I would like to know what is the median sensitivity around here.
Post away!

for me,
left/right ~4.5"
down/up ~1.5"
(cant decrease vertical movement, space limited)

make 360°

I got a bit less than two inches when moving the mouse in a line, but I usually just do a turn with the wrist, which turn the camera around in less than a second.

Mine used to be 4-6 inches per 360, but since Ive barely been playing I had to dial it back to 9 inches per 360 or I miss a lot.

Yeah it becomes very difficult to aim with unless you get used to it and do it almost everyday.
At some point I was having sens' as high as 0.7 inches per 360, but since I got very shaky and didnt get to play as much I got it lower (it really required microscopic movements to be accurate with and on the bottom line it wasn't as consistent as my current sens)

Exactly 3"/360°. I play from the wrist because small (9" wide) mousepad.

I find it helpful to keep a consistent sens across fps games to keep muscle memory in line.

EDIT: Transitioned to 4.5". Feels better in every game but Doom, it makes me feel the 35fps framerate more than ever. Ugh.

Damn, that's high

How do you pull off precision shots? Just a really high DPI, or a precision button, or is your mouse just heavy?

a high level of muscle control for my mouse hand is probably what helps me the best

Such high sens' are also very benifiting when it comes to reaction times, and also ease movement (provided you can control it well enough)

About 4 inches.

I remember a bunch of quake 3 players telling me how they used the whole mousepad for one revolution, sounded insane to me.

I've heard this as well, they seem quite used to constantly picking up and moving the mouse.

I like this topic. Let's see how far this can go

Take for example, a time when you need to line up a shot and you're only like a degree or two off, or track a distant target. How do you manage to smoothly move your mouse what's literally less than a millimeter smoothly (without overturning) without needing to grip your mouse tighter than normal (which leads to shaking and tired hands)?

Too high, ends in what I just said, and too low, results in dulled reactions and constantly tired wrists, along with an inability to keep up with tracking quickly moving targets. How do you tackle these problems?

For that you usually aim by moving left/right rather than moving your mouse.
And my mouse has buttons in it to change its sensitivity quickly so that I can adjust it for longer distances (even though I rarely play those gamemodes so I dont use it often)
