Your MIDI music / Community Music

Hello Zandronum People.
I'm making this thread because I've heard a lot of music from other games in various Doom wads.

Do you guys often try to add custom/non-doom midi music to your maps/mods?
Do you all just make your own with tuxguitar or something?
Also, would you be interested in a community free-to-use midi resource for zandro modders/mappers?

I have a handful of midi tracks and definitely wouldn't care if you guys used em for maps. If the rest of you don't care who uses your tracks we can set up a resource for the folks that don't make their own and don't wanna rip off ROTT or just use the standard tracks.

Note:
Don't know about you, but I'm not a fan of high quality music packs or real metal songs in standard Doom. It can work for mods/total conversions, but for vanilla style levels, I think it's pretty off-putting.

Nifty. Do most of the mappers/modders here just make their own stuff then?

No. Most people here rip MIDI's from other wads.

Even worse, some people pack their PK3's full of 80MB worth of copyrighted MP3's or music from other games.

Ouch.
Well, I'm adding some more midi to that mediafire folder. You guys can use whatever you want.
It's just midi metal stuff mostly. Nothing mindblowing, but consider using before you stick some mp3s in your music folder.

I just think midi is too much oldschoo, I prefer ogg anyway but, for mid I use crisis to give a bit more of quality

Here's some of my stuff, none of it is really intended for Doom:

MIDI's:
some black metal song i made
krust/thrash-ish metal song
oldschool Cannibal Corpse-inspired track

MP3's (click the links and you can listen without having to download them):
some 8-bit jam i made
a dance-ish track using Serious Sam headless bomber sounds

i didnt liked that black metal song you made there aenima, kinda repetitive imo, but the thrashish and the cannibal crap are ok, that second one remember me to a song from Hell Revealed 2

Black metal doesn't translate to midi very well seeing as atmosphere is almost impossible, but some neat stuff there.
A useful tool for throwing quick 8bit sound on a midi file is a program called gashisoft I believe.

Anyhow, as for this music pack I'm making here, this evening I'll try and upload everything i have, go through and take out the count-in clicks from the songs that have it and maybe write up some descriptions or at least group them a little better.

Oh, and as far as midis being oldschool, that's essentially what I was originally getting at hence my last two sentences there.
At any rate, I like oldschool.

AAAAH
AAAAAAAAH
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO THINKS SIMILAR
I always want to cry when I hear super hyped techno music in game from 1993. It just doesn't fit.

Same here, heh.
Is this an unpopular opinion around here then?
Regardless, I might as well categorize my uploads, so I'm beginning that process now...

EDIT: Okay, I've written a couple lists, but I'm noticing a many of them have stuff like repeating riffs because a solo was supposed to be there or blank spots for vocals that would be really lame to hear in a soundtrack, so I'll get around to it.

Let me know if any of them don't work, have annoying count ins (I think I've removed all of those), or really suck or something.

And again, the point is they're free to use midis for your wads, so steal away! And I can't speak for any potential future participants in this free midi collection junk, but feel free to edit mine or whatever you wanna do with em.

I dunno man, "super-hyped techno" was a big part of the System Shock 2 soundtrack, and that was a 1999 FPS. Worked really well there.

I don't think it would fit well with the original Doom maps, but lately I've been been considering designing a small DM pack around an IDM/psytrance soundtrack.

I don't know. Some players like it, but the general consensus among forum/IRC regulars tends to be that 100mb+ PK3's full of nothing but MP3's are dumb and unnecessary. The only servers that you'll find hosting these PK3's are Brutal Doom servers ("DoomMetal.pk3" or whatever the filename is), DoomHotel/"Ao Oni", and FSR servers.

One of the only map packs that justifiably had an 80MB music PK3 was Delta Invasion.

SS2 wasn't ALL throbbing techno though, a lot of it was more electroindustrial sounding or just pure ambient.
Also, it may have been illegal to not have throbbing techno in your game in the very late '90s to the early '00s...
Actually a better example of good techno in an FPS may be UT99.

Gota be honest here. I do not mind the music packs that are 80+MB. It just has to be justifiable like Delta Invasion and converted to ogg to conserve filesize as people do not like waiting for a huge pk3 download.

If the music matches the map, then why not?

Cool, thanks for sharing.
Most of the Devilzwork/Rot90 stuff is pretty good :)
I'll add it to the original post

Hey MotorWülf, is there any chance you'd be willing to upload a ZIP with all of your stuff in it? I'd like to listen to each of these at some point, but downloading them each individually is kind of tedious. From what I've heard though (DANGERSLUT and DEADWOLF) these are some nice MIDIs!

EDIT: If you have enough interest in this type of thing, it may be worth your while to contact Jimmy over at Doomworld. That man knows his MIDIs, and has a site he maintains that's totally MIDI-centric. :)

Sure thing, added it to the first post.
Thanks! Maybe I'll remake this thread at Doomworld, or if Jim's site does basically what I'm trying to do here (free original midi for doom maps/mods), I can just send my stuff his way.
What's his site called?
