What do you think of this?

Just wondering that other people think of this.

It's basically just a mock up of a simpler home page, like ZDoom and DRDTeam's home pages.
Got the idea during a conversation with Tribeam about the website design.

Spoiler: How the idea came to be (Open)

* Dark-Assassin runs
<Tribeam> yall should ditch the current home page, and make the wiki the home page
<Dark-Assassin> XD
<Dark-Assassin> yall should just let me do it all.
<Dark-Assassin> Gives me something to do when my webhost decides to fuck up,
<Tribeam> im serious, having all the infomartion right there in front of you when you go to homepage is beneficial
<Tribeam> for everyone
<Dark-Assassin> Actually, since it's PHP, it could just gather the data from the wiki, but it's tricky.
<Dark-Assassin> And that's without using any SQL
<Dark-Assassin> But really, it's just a home page.
<Dark-Assassin> It doesn't need much info.
<Dark-Assassin> Wikis are for technical Information.
<Dark-Assassin> So Tribeam, I think the main page doesn't need information from the wiki.
<Tribeam> the homepage is a useless menu, changing that to the wiki's page will show people that where all the information they could ever need will be, and its easier to get to, and doesn't waste as much time
<Dark-Assassin> There is a link to the wiki in big green text up top.
<Dark-Assassin> It's easier to find that on the Skulltag website.
<Dark-Assassin> Though, that site was more professionally designed.
<Tribeam> then you link to the forums and other places from the wiki
<Tribeam> you dont need some fancy theme, functionality over practicality
<Dark-Assassin> The wiki itself doesn't really look that great anyway.
<Dark-Assassin> Plus, themes actually grab people's attention, not some white page.
<Dark-Assassin> Though, these people done their site very well, while keeping it simple. http://www.xonotic.org/
<Tribeam> easy to use, simple, to the point, knowing where all the information is gonna be, its why zdoom's wiki is so popular, you just gotta organize it right
<Dark-Assassin> True. ZDoom is fairly simple and to the point.
<Dark-Assassin> Also shows release changelogs, which is alright. But news can also seem better sometimes.
<Tribeam> nobody keeps up with news
<Dark-Assassin> How about http://realm667.com/ ?
<Tribeam> also you can theme wikis
<Dark-Assassin> That's more simplified since Tormentor worked on it again.
<Dark-Assassin> Well, what do you think about skulltag's design then?
<Tribeam> for what?
<Dark-Assassin> Website/Homepage
<Tribeam> wiki :P
<Dark-Assassin> Well, if I can get some webspace that works, I can mock up something quickly, and simple.
<Dark-Assassin> One I got is currently giving hissyfits and denying access
<Dark-Assassin> Tribeam
<Dark-Assassin> Simple like this: http://i.imgur.com/hVW7S14.png ?
<Tribeam> yes actually
<Tribeam> cept wiki style, with links pointing to the wiki, abot what to do and how to do it
<Dark-Assassin> Well, that is inspired by both DRDTeam and ZDoom's pages.
<Dark-Assassin> And also, it has scrolling content, not the whole page.
<Tribeam> all that info, could be put on a wiki page, and you can add more content on that first part, just say something like "dont know what zandronum is? click here" which would point to an explenation of what zandronum is on the wiki
<Tribeam> keep it organized
<Dark-Assassin> Thing is, afaik the wiki is managed by Tiger, not anyone else here that I know ow.
<Dark-Assassin> of*
<Tribeam> make a new one!
<Tribeam> and just copy stuff over
<Dark-Assassin> Well, I gotta go now
<Tribeam> cya
<Dark-Assassin> I'll poke around this more maybe tomorrow.

Also, may as well ask about this, as it is what started it.
It's just a Stylebot theme I came up with recently.

I both like it and not, I think the home page looks more badass the way it is not, but this is wat more comfortable and it's actually useful itstead of a clatter of info, buttons and special effects just smashed together.
I vote yes for this idea.

I like the website as it is, however I really wish they'd change the logo; yours looks pretty good.

Thanks.

I guess the design depends on the person. Some like things simple, others likes things fancy.

IMO consistency is good for websites, not having different designs all across.
Especially using outdated and previously WIP and unfinished designs.
Consistency doesn't have to always apply, though it does make things look better.

This is more like something I just felt like doing for the sake of it. I was also pretty bored.
I probably could have chosen a different colour palette, though Zandronum's main colour theme is Green, so I worked from that.

Actually looks pretty good, try slapping some space and translucency on

I can do that. It's farily easy to do.

This one was harder to get right. Especially while preserving the scrolling content and blank borders without making the page scroll.
I also think it's going a bit away from simplicity.

Logo is neat, everything else I'm not too fond of.

Logo color variations would also be neat as well.
