19 years? Damn. It's even more impressive that people still play and mod the game! Happy Birthday Doom!
If I remember correctly, when the shareware version of Doom was first uploaded onto a server for download, the server crashed from too many download requests. When else has that ever happened, for the shareware no less?

Even more interesting, this is technically my 19 year anniversary for playing the game as well. I began playing when I was 2, and now I am a semi-adult 21 year old.

I suspect Doom is still a virgin... and so that is why we haven't had any good games, it hasn't reproduced yet.

Those still count as DooM. I meant entirely different games, engine and developer wise.

You are very correct. I remember trying to download it myself, to absolutely no success whatsoever. Not one server worked. Then I bought an OEM CD version, which was buggy as hell. After that I tried copying it from friends via zipped files - didn't work either since in those days one was restricted to the plastic fantastic floppy disks. But when I finally sat down and got it going and heard that sweet midi music.. it was love from first sight. Alas! Not one game since 1993 has ever come close to the magic of DOOM.

Almost 20 she is, time surely flies by. Enjoyable Birthdays DooM gets every year.
