Zandronum for iOS and Android???

Well i've been wondering that if...
The developers develop Zandronum for iOS and Android Tablets "Bluetooth keyboard required to communicate with Zandronum windows or mac users"
so everybody will be able to use Zandronum!
and more profit for zandronum developers and engineers!

This has been discussed before, not sure if it was on the new forums though. Basically it would be a ton of work, and many of Zandronum's features would be useless on those platforms.
Also moved to appropriate forum.

I had always thought about a port for PSP seeing as legacy doom is on it, but I read a post on zdoom forum saying it's hard to port to different architectures.

I wish I could dig up the old thread and link you to it. But I think it was on the Skulltag forums.
I honestly can't remember. But the point of the thread was that it's probably not going to happen. You'll have to just settle for iOS/Android Doom2.exe.

People and their fetishes for porting everything to every platform. Seriously, why would you need that? Isn't PC good enough?

Even if it
were to happen, it would be slow as hell, have NO OpenGL support, and probably no multiplayer ... Which is kinda the focal point of Zandronum.
Also, I'd like to point out that this--

--is the reason why iOS/Android Zandronum will never exist. There is no "profit". This is a free service. The developers have no gain from doing what they do other than the satisfaction of seeing our community thrive. And for that, we thank them as much as we can. Asking them to port the engine to a specific device is too much. Nobody is going to spend the 6 months of all-nighters necessary to create a working iOS/Android port unless you
pay them. The developers are not going to waste their time porting Zandro to every specific device when there are much more important things to worry about, like network optimization and catching up with ZDoom/GZ.
Sorry to be a dream-crusher. I'd just like to answer all of the "why not"s before they pop up. Since the old thread seems to have vanished forever ...

no no it's good enough but you know tablets are more portable than laptops!
that's all!

Pretty sure you could run it on certain tablets anyway. I'm not sure if Linux executables will run/ can run on android.

Or even for Zandronum Home-brew for PS3 and Xbox 360
"but keyboard for controller required to communicate with PC players"
I think ps3 and Xbox 360 are powerful enough to play Zandronum.

Probably. But the only way I can see this happening is if you're running a hacked PS3/360 with Linux on it and just play the Zandronum build intended for Linux PC's. And even then, it will probably be really buggy and won't recognize all of the input commands or render properly due to all of the hardware being different from what a PC has.
And as said before, Zandro most likely won't be ported to anything other than a computer. If you wanna play it on PS3/360, you'll probably have to install Linux on it.
... Which is actually a really good idea regardless of what programs you're trying to run. I recommend reading this if you're interested:

So let's say we somehow motivate our coding volunteers to dump the months of work to restructure the zDoom/Zandronum program to PS3/X360 architecture. For no pay. And want them to maintain and bugfix them indefinitely as Zan updates. For free.
- Console/tablet controls are crippling for the fps genre when the competitive opposition is using the standard keyboard + mouse setup. They'd most likely be wrecked and compelled to play on PC, defeating the purpose of porting it in the first place.
- Though X360 and PS3 does support USB keyboards, communication would still be problematic. Unless someone put VOIP in Zan (unlikely, we have Teamspeaks for that) and magically found a way to crack PS3/X360 voice codecs to communicate with people on other platforms.
- Also consider the security holes and management complications, what would everyone do if someone made an aimbot for PS3 or X360 Zandronum? Keeping banned people banned would be another issue.
- How many people even own homebrewed X360s/PS3s? Your average console player would be baffled at even the setup process.
- Anyone with a computer can play Zandronum. Seriously, if you can open this webpage on a computer, it can play Zandronum. The "but everyone can play if we put it on consoles" reasoning sort of falls flat there.
I don't know, I just don't see the merit in doing such a thing.
If you don't care about the multiplayer, then the zDoom guys are who you want to talk to, since they're ahead of Zan in the singleplayer department.

And that's all assuming that PS3/360/Android Zandronum would even be capable of connecting to the master server. Which it probably wouldn't. Well, maybe the PS3 might (since, IIRC, its network structuring is pretty much identical to a PC).

I'd love to try and port the code to something, I was thinking of Solaris as I run a lot of stuff off that. Also I was thinking of a Dreamcast port as there's no specific API to use for it and it's a wide open machine, dunno how it would run though :/ But atm I don't fully understand the source/how to compile it.
