Is Skype really bannable?

So, there were a number of arguments mainly on the WhoDunIt server, about Skype. Some people said it is a bannable offense because "it gives you an advantage over other players", some say it's not, because nobody can prove you were actually talking, and even if they could, they can't prove you were talking about the game.
Are there any rules about this? Are we allowed to use Skype or anything else?
(I'd say yes, because if not, we might as well "cheat" on IRC...)

It's not like people will magically know if you are on Skype or not, unless they have some sort of way of ACTUALLY knowing in which case I would say would trail to some serious stalking...
Just to be clear, no one really cares if you do so or not. The question itself of whether or not you can get banned for it is just pretty fucking ridiculous.

Well yeah, I know it doesn't have a high chance, but it's still better to be sure.

Code: Select all
<Synert> I really like how they're debating about that being bannable when they all kill each other anyway

You can use Skype, but don't use Skype to cheat. I've already given a warning for this in the past. True, in some cases it might not be provable. But technically, servers don't need proof to ban you. Use common sense and don't cheat.

Your right about the fact that it can't be proven, and there's nothing wrong with using skype. Clans use Teamspeak all the time.
However "Ghosting" (one person watching the opponent) is usually looked down on. Depending on the situation it could be classed as cheating.

Cheating in a non-competitive game mode. Right. People shouldn't be blamed for how that mod is incredibly prone to different sorts of 'cheating', should we say.

Any game mode that allows players to spectate is prone to this sort of cheating.

WDI is best when played with VOIP.
Also there's no rules forbidding Skype or anything of the sort.

My comment was slightly in jest and obviously doesn't answer (not that I can) whether or not using skype in WDI is an offense.

The way you put your first post was really making me think you were one of the "no-brain noob" kind of player. Whatever, I don't even play WDI anymore so I shouldn't really bother, haha.

Be careful with that word. Deathmatch is non-competitive too, but we don't allow cheating in that.

As much I slowly dislike Ivan's Mobius-esque personality. I'm agreeing with him throughout this thread.

Very well, but the thing is, despite the gamemode (Survival) WDI is very much player-versus-player. There is not even a consensus that the innocents are on the same team together.

Semi-off-topic: Is the murderer allowed to team up with an innocent?

What exactly is there to gain from cheating at WDI?
Or cheating at Doom period. I mean, it's not like you're winning any money. Or reputation.
