Performance issues?

Hi all
I've got a Lenovo M910q Tiny PC Intel i7-7700T 2.9GHz 16GB RAM 250GB SSD... On Windows 10 I get an easy 160 - 240 FPS in Lexicon mod but in Ubuntu MATE i get 60 FPS max (which i presume is due to vsync) but it also gets really choppy as well for some reason?
Can anyone help me improve the performance in Ubuntu as the i7 7700T isn't exactly the fastest CPU ever but it's certainly capable of pulling some good FPS in Zandronum. It just seems to be Ubuntu or the Ubuntu version holding it back..?
