RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
All of us were completely locked out of the Skulltag forums as far as I know. Powers removed, demoted, denied access, all that jazz. I don't think anyone but Carn could do that at this point.

RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
Ah, yeah I kinda thought that might be the case. Oh well.
RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
Perhaps someone could host a "message server" with a name like "Skulltag is moving to Zandronum.com" or whatever. That would have the added bonus of reaching people who don't use IRC.Ten wrote: Assuming any of the admins still have powers on the Skulltag forums, might it be a good idea to edit the Skulltag forums current message to something that redirects people here? If common everyday players who aren't too involved with the community go to the Skulltag forums and just see "Sorry this forum is currently unavailable", they're not going to know to go here instead.

He guys,
I'm not a very active forum member, but I love Doom with all my heart, and I support your fork of Skulltag. It's good that the code is now publicly available on GIT, and it's good that you want to make improvements to Skulltag, which is now 1.5 years ago.

Then let me clearly state this: I want Zandronum to stay backwards compatible with Skulltag mods (currently it already is completely backwards compatible, just load skulltag_data.pk3) and the plan is to keep backwards compatibility by creating optional pk3s that contain all resources necessary for this.Nubcakes wrote: I get the feeling the Devs do not WANT to support backwards compatibility. It almost feels like they are only supporting it now to gather as many skulltag followers as possible only screw everyone over with the next major update...

Quoted for archival purposes. We have not been forsaken! I would give you a bag of pizza rolls but I'd have to ship them to you... And then they'd get nasty in shipping. Huh, I was wondering why the ST forums went down.

I guess carn owns it? Now he's gone they've had to redo everything.Chaosboy wrote: Huh, I was wondering why the ST forums went down.

We intend to replace the existing master on master.skulltag.net/skulltag.servegame.com with a dummy master that does just this in the coming days.Marcaek wrote: Perhaps someone could host a "message server" with a name like "Skulltag is moving to Zandronum.com" or whatever. Don't worry. There's already projects in development like this http://zandronum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=35 . Soon you can play Zandonum with your buddies easily.CloudFlash wrote: Is it going to affect the gameplay? Will we be able to still use IDE, Doomseeker or <put that browser you are using or planned to use>? If yes, hooray? If no, what should we use? If any of those questions was already answered, forgive my spam loving fingers and/or ignore/delete/eat/whatever this post.

IDE and Doomseeker will still work.
RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
Out of curiosity, I decided to join these forums and watch the development of this port. I doubt I'll do much more here besides lurk - kudos to anyone who even remembers me. Honestly, I don't currently expect much of Zandronum, but a hard reset of the entire project opens up some new possibilities. It's a shame everything had to split up like this, but as much as I loved Skulltag, the community went downhill. I rarely had a chance to play multiplayer once gimmicky wads like Ghouls vs Humans and All Out War 2 were the practically the only things I ever saw anyone playing, as I couldn't stand them. I stopped bothering shortly after that. My hope for this port is that some of Skulltag's more interesting gamemodes, such as the one it's named after, as well as Domination and Invasion, get more attention.
Anyway, the reason I'm even posting this is because I'd like to ask: what is the dev team's goal for this project? I understand you guys want to essentially keep Skulltag going, but what else do you plan on doing with it now that you have total control? What are you going to do to make this port different from all the others?

I try to play Skulltag and pub CTF whenever I see them up. More Domination would be great but there are precious few maps made for it.
RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
This hasn't changed a bit, by the way. The same people have total control of the engine who have for a while. What we have gained is control of the forums.Zaranell wrote: I understand you guys want to essentially keep Skulltag going, but what else do you plan on doing with it now that you have total control?

That helped indeed. It got me here, ...and because a day later someone else told me so.Marcaek wrote: Perhaps someone could host a "message server" with a name like "Skulltag is moving to Zandronum.com" or whatever. That would have the added bonus of reaching people who don't use IRC.
EDIT:
And that was basicly the whole issue here (for years.).Qent wrote: What we have gained is control of the forums.
If Carn had not just some sort of distrust towards one of the other (and a short fuse), Skulltag forums would be still 'alive'... right?
(i dont know the details, and i don't have to. This was just sounds logic to me, according to whatever happened before in the past)

RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
Yes, if there hadn't been a problem, then nothing would have changed.
The objective of the move was to get stable forums, not to change the name or remove content.

RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
Is zandronum gonna be more stable than skulltag?
RE: Just what IS Zandronum, anyway?
Stability is our number one priority and a current cockblock in why 1.0 is not finalized right now. I'm not sure this really answers your question so if you'd elaborate a bit further, I'm sure someone qualified can answer in more detail.Megadave1994 wrote: Is zandronum gonna be more stable than skulltag?
