SR50 for Zandronum?
RE: SR50 for Zandronum?
Well, you must realise that the SR50 trick is possible as a bind because ZDoom (and ports derived from it, which includes Zandronum) implemented the option to bind different keys and combinations - the "original" way to SR50 was to strafe right/left+ walk forward/backward + strafe key + turn left/right (possible with the mouse and according to the strafe direction), and as you can imagine this was more complicated than the binds possible now.
I can understand that you do not really like it when all of the above can be bound to one key, but you must understand that Zandro is not OldSchool based and that the bind feature is part of the game, even if it makes the trick less "amazing".
Cheers

Ya! I do understand this, but then I don't understand when the players claim to be (and to play!) "competitive" when they partecipate in events where binds like this are allowed.

RE: SR50 for Zandronum?
SR50 is an additional feature, and as the players in question play against each other, they're blatantly competitive. Using a bind like this changes nothing.Luke wrote: Ya! When you're running back with the flag changes everything! Anyhow you are right: they play against each other and I'm not anyhow involved, therefore the point I make isn't much imporant since both sides of those competitive games agree on the usage of the above mentioned bind.
Still that I would refuse to play competitive if the chance of using that bind was enabled; I wish to suggest to add an option to disable such bind, if this is even possible, even though I'm pretty sure that since the usage of that bind is widely accepted in the community, the developers won't bore themselves to add this feature (if is even possible to do it).
RE: SR50 for Zandronum?
the Admins themselves even once said that SR50 automation is totally legitimate, but I think that the developers did once discuss in request thread to implement a DMFlag to disable SR50 according to the owner's choice.Luke wrote:When you're running back with the flag changes everything! RE: SR50 for Zandronum?
Nono, SR50 automation is different and is still a cheat. This is just rebinding your keys.
RE: SR50 for Zandronum?
I recall that the admins have once said in a thread which was about how "SR50 binds are cheating" that it is not a bannable offense, and that you can use it as you wish.Qent wrote: Nono, SR50 automation is different and is still a cheat. This is just rebinding your keys.
Plus, the fact that Jenova's SR50 thread was stickied implies that the staff are definitely not against it, and that it is a ZDoom ( and in this case, Zandronum) feature.
EDIT: After reading the doom wiki article, I now see that "SR50 Automation" is something different than what I thought it was, and that it included some sort of mouse driver hack. What I meant that was legitimate was an SR50 bind using the console - I have never heard of this "Mouse driver hack" before, and I assumed that the term "automation" reffered to binding. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

My bad. Being unable to see the cheat code fooled me apparently!Qent wrote: Nono, SR50 automation is different and is still a cheat. This is just rebinding your keys.
RE: SR50 for Zandronum?
If you guys just want to do the normal way of sr-50 then you can use my way of doing it: CTRL = strafe Q = left E = right whilst doing that move the mouse the way you want to go by pressing all those buttons and you should be good to go. Takes time to get use to sr-50 but doing it manually is awesome, I've never used any binds for movements but I get along just fine. Also if you have 2 buttons on the side of your mouse bind those to Q and E and you can perfect your movement speed.
RE: SR50 for Zandronum?
SR50 auto: move at SR50 speed while maintaining perfect control over your mouse movement. Like in TAS runs (haxing)
SR50 binds: move at SR50 speed, no mouse control. There is no way to differentiate manual and binded SR50. Because it's perfectly legit movement.
