Technically it is not theft due to taking implying the removal of the original, but looking at it a less literal way, yes, it is theft. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

While site-shall-not-be-named is notorious for the enabling of unlawful redistribution of copyrighted content (ergo E-Piracy), this was likely not what OP used it for in this case.
That however does not make him any less unwise in doing zero amounts of research into acquiring the necessary parts for Brutal Doom from sources less stupid and malicious.

TL;DR, Brutal Doom players are generally dumb and do dumb things.
