Well, since it's already been around for 20 years without dying, my guess it's gonna take on the following years without problems. It's too good of a game.

To be more precise, purely Competitive Doom (CTF, Duel) will most likely be dead in that time span. Casual and Competitive "other" Doom will still thrive (MM8B or anything else people play for competitive reasons, COOP or other gamemodes, AOW, Deathrun, Samsara, GVH, etc). Perhaps D4 can give us additional players, but remember that also initially, you either find Zdaemon, Odamex or Zandronum first.

<PUN1SH3R> occasionally cube will pull a player into it's system

Beside never seen anyone who disliked doom. -Exclude a few @#%@#% who say it sucks for no reason then go play garbage you know-

Singleplayer and cooperative mods will always be more popular since they are widespread and diverse. Because of that the coop community won't be dying anytime soon.

If anyone could make some sort of quality "NS CTF/DUEL/etc" and keep it advertised consistantly, I'm sure that people would play them, because a lot of newer players are used to freelook and jumping, and would prefer playing those kind of games.
Dynamite DM is a good example.
Projects completed : PROCTF, Jump Maze, Tricky ST, RJX, RJX Remastered, Jump Maze X
Newest Project : Nothing at present, potentially a JM1 update.

It was said from either iD or Bethesda that Doom 4 should be as big as Skyrim, and that with RAGE they made the mistake of announcing it too early. So they might follow in Skyrim's footsteps and announce it at the next VGA awards this December.

Not to mention it's perfect timing for a reveal, since the 20th anniversary of Doom is on December 10th this year. And John Romero is supposed to play SNS this December.

What does Romero have to do with id, did they re-hire him by secret?
Doom with that huge size sounds terrible tbh.. We only want crazy music, monsters and fast as hell levels.

Well My guess is that Vanilla Doom will Die, Doom will remain alive as an ''engine''. If you look at today's mods, you can see that its really far from what the original doom is like.
