Friend's ping problem

Hi, I'm just a Doom 2 player and idk how to have my friend not have over 600 ping and its no fun when your friend lags and both players can't play together in harmony. Please help asap. P.S. I'm running the server!

May be dependant on your's and/or their's connection quality. What sort of ping do they get on other servers?

No I wasn't downloading anything at that moment. Just doomseeker and the server and me and my friend playing!
