Are we able to use custom titles still?

better question is, why did they change the whole interface anyway? it was fine the way it was.

MyBB itself was not fine the way it was.
It was prone to bugs, a lot of manual fixes had to be made, it had more security breaches than phpBB and couldn't update to the latest due to said changes being reverted and other things potentially breaking.
Most of this was mainly due to it's bad support of the Database engine being used.
It was just too much trouble to manage, so we switched to phpBB.
Also, phpBB has more features than MyBB.

tl;dr: phpBB > MyBB
