So from what I saw from the gameplay and snapmap videos, Doom4 is looking pretty good, altough there are things I dislike, like the chainsaw apparently engaging finisher mode the moment just attack a monster with it.

The one thing that really annoying me is snapmap, with the premade rooms, wich would mean that most of the maps will look kinda the same, and even if they include a more doom builder like editor in there, I feel like it would not be used that much either, since it would be a lot more complex to use.

So the best thing that comes to my mind is a wolf3d-esque editor mode, in wich you can chose floor type, sector height, place the walls as you like, with diagonal walls too so that it atleast gives you more freedom and all, it might not be as complex as a doom builder like editor mode, but it would be a lot more creative than the one with the premade secor mode, and it would not be as complex like the doom builder like mode and one could be able to choose from premade rooms mode, wolf3d-esque mode and the doom builder like mode.

USB3 would no where near be fast enough.
PCI-E 3 gives roughly 500MB/s per lane (multiply that by 16 for a graphics card) while USB3 can only give up to 640MB/s on it's own in the best of conditions.
Also, a notebook CPU would melt. You would either need a super high end gaming laptop or a high end gaming PC.

Is it just me or does that Spider Mastermind have no textures rendered on it? It looks like only the bare model is there.

No it doesn't. I forgot to quote this but he stated it's in early stages, and untextured.

I watched some of the trailers for DooM 2016. I know graphic violence is a staple in the DooM franchise, but DooM 2016 is too much for me.

In classic Doom, the player sees hanging limbs, dismembered bodies and enemies that explode into piles of guts--true. But it's pixelated to hell, cartoonish and not at all realistic. It was probably way more disturbing back in 1993. Today, classic DooM's violence is kinda cheesy.

In DooM 2016, however, there's gigantic puddles of blood , dismembering live enemies & zombies with chainsaws... and as you are dying, enemies will rip your arms and legs off. I dunno... I have serious depression issues and seeing that shit just makes it too real for me. It's like Brutal Doom (which I also don't play), but a hundred times more detailed and realistic.

I feel like Bethesda/id are stuck in the 1993 mentality of, "People want violence in video games... we need to make it as gory and bloody as possible!" I don't play Doom for the violence--I play it for the gameplay & the customizability. Honestly, if Classic Doom didn't have a single drop of blood, I would still play it.

I'm getting off track. Point being: I think I'm sitting this one out and sticking with Classic DooM. Probably not for the same reason everyone else will, but I'm sure I won't be alone.

Mmhmm... yeah... and? I quite honestly love the blood and gore of this new Doom game. It's yummy. It's like Doom 64 meets Doom (1993) meets Mortal Kombat. Maybe a bit of Brutal Doom, but I think it's more like Beautiful Doom (way gorier in my opinion). I love blood and gore; (probably why I love Hellsing Ultimate and Evil Dead 2) but that's besides the point. I'm picking up this game, because we are in a FPS generation where everyone loves to just see people get shot and fall over. Yeah totally realistic if I shoot someone in the head with a shotgun their head just stays right on... yeah totally.

It's not satisfying from a gameplay perspective or from a gore perspective. Thankfully though, Doom 2016 hits the right notes for me. It's been ages since we've seen a proper FPS deliver in the gore department *cough cough* Soldier of Fortune *cough cough*. I love the realistic gore that Doom 2016 has, and quite frankly I can't wait to walk through gigantic puddles of blood, dismember live zombies and demons (because they are demons; I don't give a fuck.), enemies will rip our arms and legs off? Of course they will, they are demons. What do you expect? A hug?

Look I understand you have depression issues, sometimes I feel down as well. I'll probably feel like shit sometimes, but games like Brutal Doom let me take my anger and sadness out on these horrible demons that have killed my friends and my species (humanity). So you know, I like to play Brutal Doom and Beautiful Doom, and quite honestly I can't wait for Doom 2016!

I can only imagine the carnage of shooting someone point blank with a super shotgun! The entrails spilling out, the eyes popping out, the femur jutting out... it's just beautiful symphonic carnage! I love it!

By the way, Classic Doom wasn't cartoonish or cheesy back then, nor is it now. For example examine the Zombieman gib animation for a second k?

Image

As HorrorMovieGuy stated on the Doomworld Forums.

It's hard to make out the details of the monsters with the low-res of the doom sprites sometimes. I only realised recently how brutal and realistic the gibbing animations are. They don't just explode into random pieces of meat and blood, if you look closely you can see the eyes popping out, the brain, the spine with the pelvis still attached, the femur sticking out from the now severed leg. Masters of Doom wasn't kidding when they said Adrian used Doom as an outlet for his darker side.

So yeah.....

I respect your opinion dude, if you are not going to play Doom 2016 go ahead and don't play it. Quite frankly, I'm excited for the new Doom game. It's just embracing the Classic Doom heritage of blood, guts, and entrails! =D

It's not that violent video games make me sad... it's more to do with violent, intrusive thoughts that I experience--uncontrollably. Fortunately, I've been treated for a lot of the worst issues of my depression, so I'm MUCH better than I used to be.

Still, I struggle with that stuff occasionally. The reason I don't want to play DooM 2016 is the same reason I don't watch gory horror movies: it's too much like what goes on in my head.

I mean, if I squint hard enough at the Doom sprites, they're pretty detailed. But it's still much different and less realistic than any violent game today--let alone DooM 2016. It's just not the same.
