Sad Welcoming

Greetings Marines! Hello im Odine, First of all, for those who do not know me:

I am new on the Zan-forum, but Ive been playing DOOM since 1997 and playing it online since 4 years, first on Skulltag (awww memories). I just play Survival games online. Im also working on some wads, pk3, sprite/texture making, some concept art making, and mapping, just for hobby. I have a website entirely dedicated to DooM and also a YouTube channel only for DooM. Because i love this game and enjoy doing it and sharing with other people.

Some of you probably remember me from some cooperative games like Chillax, btsx, av, complex, samsara, hellcore, mop, cchest, stronghold, resurgence and some other alpha-testing etc... I played shoulder to shoulder with another great marines around the world like: Death, NightmareRus, elijah, _Lagger_, Animazero, Enterim, ancalagon, ftw395, Eva, Mr.T, Nilok, Astrum, KORP53, Dimfire, Trivium.. and many more I cant remember, but I send a greeting to all of you my friends :D

I write this thread here in general chat, because i feel very disappointed and worried about my first reply on this forum that been deleted just for say an opinion. Or because im new here and my words have not the same value... But now Im afraid to write a comment anywhere here on the forum knowing that it can happen again.

They might see that I only have one comment and they think I be a troll? Please, I have a few hours of life on the forum. and of course I have a few comments, that's obvious...
I dont know... I just say that I think is great idea doing a tournament survival-coop, and that I would like to know how they are going to do it, because im really interested (as I said before i just like play survival-coop games with another players doing a great teamwork).

(You should know that I read all the forum rules and community rules too. I have always been a respectful person with other people. I never had any problems and with nobody in these four years playing doom online)

And I finally made the decision to register here on zandronum Forum because im now involved in 2 projects PK3s/WADs and I would like to make myself known to the rest of the community and share my work/projects and the hard work of my website purely dedicated to DooM and the development of my projects with the rest of the people that likes DooM and his world.

now i begin to think that im wrong when i register on this forum, why? If my first comment is thrown away to the trash, like if what I said was garbage. just for saying: "hey! thats great!. I like your survival-coop tournament idea. I would like to know how you guys gonna do it. can be with different difficult categories?"
I really want to participate in the conversation, in the event, share ideas... you know what I mean guys.

This makes me feel very sad, and this makes me feel very despised. This never happened to me before in any other forums around the world in these years. I really hope guys that the rest of you be different to this.

Please guys tell me I may be wrong, Or if this happens normally.

Rip and Tear!

It was more than likely split because the original thread you responded to was 7 months old.

What Ruin said. I just happen to forget to tag it as a bump, so dont worry about it.
Anyhow, welcome to the forums.

Here was a special theme called "zandronum member introduction" for this.
Necro-posting is actually a bad thing.

It's not so much you were deleted for "expressing an opinion", but bumping long-dead topics is generally frowned upon on the internet no matter where you go.

Thank you very much for the welcome guys

so is an old thread right? I wonder why its still open and allowing new comments. But is Ok!
I ask you because I be new here and do not know how you work and manage the forum. It is true what you say about "do necromancy" to an old post, yeah, I agree with you, my apologies.

So for what I see, the tournament survival-coop will not be done? Sad :-(
I would like to know if this is possible. or if someone attempts to do this in the past or nowadays.

The tournament did happen, but was stopped halfway and was terminated early.

Manually closing every single topic that's been idle for X+1 amount of days would be tedious as hell, not to mention harmful towards project makers.

Sometimes modders just aren't active for a long time, then swoop in with an update out of nowhere.

Refrain from worrying about a post-split. Everyone gets posts that are split.

While this sounds good in theory, it's possible that the thread starter could come back with a good reason to revive the thread. In that case they'd have to come to us before anything could be done with it.

Maybe you should make threads automatically lock after some time X, for everyone except for the OP himself. Once the OP posts a new reply to the locked thread, it gets automatically unlocked. To avoid confusion, all of this should be explained to the OP once their thread is autolocked by having the webpage of the OP's thread display (only for him) a disclaimer above the first post. If all that is possible.

I'm....not sure how plausible programming-wise that is.

7 months is really not that long tbh :/ I never get why people have such a problem with thread bumping from ages ago, if no one has anything to add then the thread will just be passed by again anyway. Seems like people just think this is the way forums should be run and they stick with it.

i always felt that thread necro was always super vague, it also seems to be inconsistent with diffrent sub forums. when is something considered necro? what if someone wanted to post on a general chat thread and its burried behind like 5 pages and like 6 months inactivity, but making a new thread would be considered bad because there already was a topic about it?

I dont want to hijack this thread, but these are awesome ideas. I wanted to mention that you can suggest site features on the tracker and this should defs be chucked on there.

When you report an issue, select "site" as the project and mark the ticket as an suggestion!

I do think some coding or a plugin is needed for this though, but if someone spawns the ticket on the tracker, i'll investigate it!

Howbout just a simple warning that says "the last post in this thread was 6 months ago, are you sure you want to bump?" when you click Post Reply on a thread older than 6 months.

Just to make people aware of what they're doing.

Indeed this is the conflict. Since when we considering a post "necropost"?.

And of being this way, it is also wrong to create a new post to open the debate again?. Probably you receive a warning from another user like "That topic was already discussed three years ago" why you reopen it?
So we can not talk about it ever again?

and you cant never ever get to talk to this, for ever and ever until the end of the times. Amen!? (O.o) So... Oh my god

Looks good idea, specially for the new forum users like me or for the users who disappeared for a while and come back again

Thanks for the info. I hope that in the future someone try it again. Maybe from another point of view, or try it from different ways of organizing the tournament. I have a little hope, can be fun!

There's another forum I use that does exactly that but I have no idea what software they use.

Also remember when the ST forums would redirect you back to the post editing page with that annoying "Someone posted a new reply while you were writing, do you want to revise your post in light of this?" message after you clicked Post Reply? Something like that except make it say something about the thread being dead before letting them post.

I liked that feature. It saved people from being ninja'd.
