RE: Your age
Indeed, young ones! I really am 61. born 12/27/50. Thankyou for your great responses.
Why did I like Doom so much? Don't really know,I just do. Oh, I do crochet, read and all that, fix my neighbors laptops on occasion. But most of all, my time is my own for the first time in over 40 years, so I do what I like. The Doom series is my absolute favorite, though. And also, I don't have to put up with my *ahem* sweet mother-in-law any more.

RE: Your age
19 but turning 21 next year. Started playing doom online in middle school (I had an awesome teacher who let me play in class. Doom 3 as well!) ever since then I've been continuously playing online different mods and started making my own. And have been here ever since :D

Am I the only one who saw Doomers as a bunch of 40 year old overweight men with big beards? This thread kinda changed my mind...
Aragorn Based God I still got the mithril.
RE: Your age
No, you are not the only one. I see doomers exactly as 40 year old men with big beards.
Altho, tbh, two months later I myself will be only 15.

RE: Your age
I'm 16. I got into Doom last year, actually. I always knew about it, but since it was a very classic game and people talked about it everywhere, I wanted to try it out. I was amazed by how fun the gameplay turned out to be. Then I modded it a bit and found out that there are active online communities still playing today. I got the latest Skulltag and I really got addicted to the game.
I started doing some Doom fan-art and well... I just really loved the game. The soundtrack was also one of the things that won me over. Listening to midi metal and rock while blowing the living Hell out of demons never gets old.
Although I play Doom for a year now, I already feel its nostalgic value, and I am certain it will remain in my memory for the rest of my life. It's one of my favorite games now and I pretty much know its every secret. That's how much I love it.

I'm 21
I wonder why people think that this game is only for 40+ bearded Stallman-types? It's an energetic community, with a lot of different people. I'll welcome anyone to a game of Doom Deathmatch.

RE: Your age
Yes, yes, Eonfge, if I come think of it then it's easy for me to realise that a 12 year old playing Doom is totally not something unusual. But only if I come think of it. My brain actually auto-associates everyone as 40+ bearded stallman-types, and I can't really help it. Reason? Well, in real life, someone who is NOT 40+ bearded stallman-type and who plays Doom at the same time is something I have yet to see.

RE: Your age
18 here turning 19 in October, i started for the first time when i was quite young when we had our first pc (a windows 98 SE packerd bell) back then I didn't care for graphics because I didn't knew much of pc's yet (well I still dont care allot for graphics) my brother and his friend played the shareware episode and I watched, and well rest is history.
RE: Your age
I've turned 20 not too long ago.
Been playing Doom since I was 7, when my parents bought me that CD with the 100 shareware games, and Doom 1 E1 was there. Been hooked ever since :)

RE: Your age
19. Used to watch my pops play Doom with some buddies of his on an old laptop. I'd play it from time to time, but I was always too scared to play it too much (I was like 3 or 4 at the time). Got bored one day, saw a video for Super Mario Doom, looked up source ports for it and thought Skulltag sounded cool. That was... probably 5 years ago.

RE: Your age
I'm 15, this September I will be 16, I first got into Doom when I decided on a whim to download the shareware demo, from there I discovered about source ports and eventually Skulltag, this was about 5 years ago
That's not really interesting though

RE: Your age
I'll be 47 on the 29th. I've been playing Doom since before Doom 2, but it was single-player-only for me until just 5 or so years ago, when I discovered ZDaemon and then Skulltag.

RE: Your age
21, started hitting the space bar for my dad back in 93, when doom was on the floppy disk.

Heheheh, 40 years AND overweight? Why must a 40 yo 'always' have to be overweighted?.... and must have big beards?Stru wrote: Am I the only one who saw Doomers as a bunch of 40 year old overweight men with big beards? This thread kinda changed my mind...
I wonder when you are going to say, that 40 year olds must have grey hear or are bald?

(also be nice to your parents.) Other than that, have a good lol on me.Cheers!
RE: Your age
im 20 - 25 and been playing DOOM, DOOM2 and HERETIC since i was a little kid... about 5. watching it even longer ;)
back when in order for the game to be fast enough (playable, not lagging) on a computer free from the curb... you had to know computers and DOS pretty damm good... or doom just wouldnt go fast enough with a "free" curbside computer... optimize this, startup batch that... menu here... sound drivers in three different flavours here... mouse OFF to save juuust enough RAM ... ah the good old days
... the other smart kids were turning off sound and used mouse (and mouse driver) and got better scores, i stuck with _ACTUALLY_ getting scared from a monster around the corner in the dark, playing in the dark :D
(it was either mouse drivers or sound drivers, not enough RAM... not enough RAM-sockets to put it in!)
and launching it from within NortonCommander caused the game to not work at all(garbage computer, not enough RAM-*_SOCKETS_*)... after the sound drivers and and and... lol

RE: Your age
I am seventeen years old. To be honest, I had no idea that this game of doom ever existed. By freshmen year of high school, my brother, who is younger than me, showed me ZDaemon. And ever since that day, I've been playing ZD everyday till this day, and also Skulltag of course.
