YoYo games is giving away free licenses for the standard edition of game maker until March 2nd.
If any of you are interested in creating a game, this is a good opportunity to get a program to do it.

EXCEPT that gamemaker is just the illusion that you are making a real game, it is just a set of limited tools in a limited engine space with limited commands that are too limited to make a work around. You got better chances of making something worth playing in Unity or other advanced freeware engines. Heck, you would even be better off using the standard doom engine.

Nah man, of course it's limited but it's great for making games (I prefer to just program, but that's my personal preference). Yknow Hotline Miami was made with it.

Meh. I'd rather use construct 2. MUCH more flexible than game maker (even the free version)

I'm suddenly tempted to attempt making a traditional RPG or Platformer using the Doom Engine now. Highly unreasonable, but I'm still kinda tempted.
On a side note: Why not just make your own game engine with C++ instead of Game Maker, RPG Maker, Unity, or other engines? You have much more control that way.

Because control be damned, starting with an already-done-and-stable engine is infinitely easier than trying to create yours from scratch.

Yeah Game maker is good.
But Enigma the open source implement of Game maker is also awesome.
It's compatible with Game maker(but not some old deprecated function).
And It's cross platform.
Since old Game maker doesn't support linux, It's good way to port a game made with Game maker.
I tried to port IJI to linux using Enigma but Since It doesn't compatible with some old deprecated function I forgave it LEL.
Personally, I wish someone port IJI to recent Game maker

I did make a tile renderer (hudmessages) in acs, though my coding skills are a little lacking to make a full game from it, I can send you the .wad if you want.
When I first tried making games it was in c/c++ with allegro and later SDL but really theres so many decent engines out there nowadays its worth just using them, depends what you wanna make really.
