RE: XWE
I don't use XWE, I don't use SLADE 3 (although I damn well WILL when I get back on my main comp and compile slade 3 on it - map editing support fuck yeah), and I don't use any other weird specialist editing program. vim + my packagepk3.py are all I neeeeeeeeed
literally the only thing I pull out slade 3 for right now is offset aligning, and since grabpng can handle setting sprite offsets (as well as adding to them), has a noninteractive mode, and is a helluva lot smaller, yeaahhhhhhhhhh

RE: XWE
That's moot when you don't realize that it's corrupted, and you continue making changes, in which it ends up overwriting your backups with just yet another corrupted copy. Also, I've had it corrupt without it even making a backup, due to XWE crashing in mid-process for no apparent reason. This is with nothing else open either.ALIENwolve wrote: Uh, there's a reason that XWE has an option to backup your files as you work on them.
Losing your files shouldn't even be a problem for you. It should be the fact that its features are limited.
I still prefer Slade 3... especially considering it makes editing PK3s a whole lot easier as well (Aside from using something like 7-Zip). XWE has a heart attack when trying to open PK3s (and corrupts them)... though that is understandable, since it came out many years before PK3 became the norm.
But I also find it better for stability, and the fact that it's much less likely to corrupt a file, and keeps a manageable number of backup files for you... instead of just one... or a shitload.

pk3 still isn't the norm - you see all those wad files still being pumped out?StrikerMan780 wrote:since it came out many years before PK3 became the norm.
maybe among the skilled coders, but not in general, and especially not for mappers

RE: XWE
I use XWE because I like the color swapping. Not to say Slade is incapable, but I prefer XWE
