Trailer for Teleglitch
The [video] tag is deprecated, please use the [media] tag
So basically, Teleglitch is an oldschool top-down roguelite shooter that is hard as hell-for some, it's Meat Boy of action games. Don't get fooled by "PEGI 7" in the video, the game is actually pretty scary- especially when you get suprised by a group of zombies with machine guns!
For me, it's how Doom should be done if it was a top-down shooter. I'm strongly recommendating it for all players, even the casual and hardcore ones.
As with patch 9.0, Teleglitch has several new features including new room generation and... lightning system! Looks astonishing like usual ;)

The eye site rendering looks a bit dodgy to me, I know its supposed to have a modern rogue like look.

This is actually one of the many games that I regret ever buying.
The first and foremost reason for this is a camera that is so downright horrible that it manages to give me motion sickness.
Now read the previous sentence very carefully.
2D top-down game.
With camera that gives me motion sickness.
Whereas about 99% other games, 3D or 2D, don't achieve this effect.
How stupidly fucked up one must be for this to happen?
After swallowing a magic pill that allows me to keep my sense of balance up I have wasted what appears to be slightly more than three hours on it, then never having even a slightest feel to ever return to this game again. This is my main reason to consider Teleglitch awful, since my ultimate measurement of game quality is the amount of time I feel like wasting on any given game. For fucks sake people, I spent more time on latest installments of call of duty.
The farthest I have ever got myself is level 3(arrived at it with 2 hp and got oneshotted by first appearing enemy). Should one ask me to summarize my thoughts on first two levels, what should I say?
In nutshell, it's running around in circles and knifing enemies to death.
After first minute, I have succesfully figured out that this game does not really favor trigger-happiness, and made a rule, where I cannot waste more than 1 unit of any ammo on any given enemy, no matter hit or miss.
With this super-conservative approach, I still find myself completely and absolutely devoid of any ammo whatsoever.
I've heard that the game gets much more intense late-game, but every time I die(which happens quite often because the game does not feel like giving medkits to me) I'm thrown back to level 1. Thus I'm infinitely stuck at early-game. Thus I'm infinitely stuck at meleeing melee enemies until they die.
I'm sorry, but this is not my definition of "action". If this is what you call "action", then I might as well call justin bieber "good music" and convert to the masses.
tl;dr - this game sucks. Saying that it's "how doom should be done as a top-down shooter" is a huge insult towards Doom and whoever says this should be burned at a stake.
Well, maybe I'm overreacting a bit here, but these games have zero connection in spirit, that's for sure.
However, there is one thing I must do - this is to give a healthy dose of applause for getting the atmosphere right. Those little terminals which provide tiny bits of background information, that lack of music, those ambient sounds of machinery running, anomaly thingamabob doing it's... thing, and sounds of god knows what the fuck else lurks out there.
This game is not scary. No, not even once it managed to surprise me or otherwise. Not once it managed to get my heart rate higher, even when I was at the brink of death. Not scary at all.
But it's moody.
That's gotta be worth something.

@HexaDoken: You surely played it just one time. I was like you, shooting everything in my FOV- but then I figured out how to knife things without harming yourself, when to shoot (it's crucial thing) and HOW TO LURE MONSTERS TO THE VOID (it makes your ammo consumption tune down to 50%- I manage to beat level 3 with 60 bullets, 40 shotgun shells and 20 adhesive grenades left.
The scary moments are right after level 3: shooting monsters and monster spam from pipes. It can really make your heartrate go higher, imagine getting swarmed by 3 machinegunners or 20 zombies. What do you do? I'll answer for you- If it's ranged monster, shoot the fuck out of it with shotgun or something even better. If it's monster spam- lure it to the void OR put a few explosives on the ground.
About motion sickness: never ever happened to me. Maybe turn off zoom and rotation?
About difficulty level: SECRETS HELP.
LIKE REALLY.
They may contain armour.
They may contain medikits.
They may contain some crafting stuff you surely need.
Knifing helps too. Don't waste all your ammo on one cat-sized amoeba.
Oh, about ammo: Once you get nailgun (level 3 or 2 if you are lucky) you shouldn't care much about it.
Really, give it a second try considering what I said.
You should learn everything slowly- learn how to fight, learn when to heal, learn what to do when you run out of ammo, learn the game.

Technically three sittings, and nine deaths total.
I have already said that my ultimate measurement of game quality is the amount of time I'm willing to spend on any given game. I'm currently willing to spend no time on this game. I already tried to give it a "second go", but after half an hour, I felt no will to continue, thus doing alt+f4 even though I had a mostly not fucked up character.
Tux wrote:then I figured out how to knife things without harming yourself
I figured that out too, thanks. Does not cancel the fact that careful knifing is kinda boring.
Tux wrote:HOW TO LURE MONSTERS TO THE VOID (it makes your ammo consumption tune down to 50%
50% decrease in minimal ammo consumption is still minimal.
Tux wrote:I manage to beat level 3 with 60 bullets, 40 shotgun shells and 20 adhesive grenades left.
By the end of level 2, 60 bullets, 20 shotgun shells, and 30 adhesive grenades(but not launcher).
That's not the amount I have left, that's the amount I have found throughout the entire game. Starting equipment included. I've been left with no bullets, three shells, and 30 adhesive grenades(because no launcher). I have not wasted more than one unit of ammo on any given monster.
Tux wrote:The scary moments are right after level 3
Which takes a moderate amount of time to reach.
Tux wrote:About difficulty level: SECRETS HELP.
They usually contain EXPLOSIVE CANS or MEAT MINES which go off and fail to kill more than a single monster.
Tux wrote:Knifing helps too.
Thank you the great Captain Obvious for the helpful advice!
The thing is that while knifing does most certainly help, it does not make the game any more interesting.
