What is Black Mesa?
Black Mesa is a total and free modification that recreates the original Half λife story with the source engine, from the introduction on the train up to Xen and the final boss. Completely rebuid from a scratch, by a team of around twenty modders over 8 years of developing, it features:
  • Over 2,000 custom Models and 5,000 custom textures (more than Half Life 2).
  • Over 2,000 choreographed scenes and over 6,500 lines of dialogue from all new voice acting.
  • Subtitles in English, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian, German, and Finnish.
  • All new soundtrack and over 2,300 custom sound effects.
  • Custom systems such as the Face Creation System, Custom Gib System, Deathcam and more.
What are the System Requirements?
Windows XP, Vista, or 7
6.9 GB of free hard drive space (not including *free* Source Sdk Base 2007, installed seperately)

Minimum: Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or AMD Processor, 1 GB RAM, Shader model 2.0, ATI 9600, NVidia 6600 or better, DirectX 8.1 compatible sound

Recommended: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz or AMD Processor, 1 GB RAM, Shader model 3.0, NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better, DirectX 9.0c compatible sound

Besides me infringing the forum's rules advertising stuff: is anyone looking into this modification?
As for myself I think this is one of the most interesting modifications, if not the most interesting, of the last years.

I know that this is more a DooM™ community rather than a Half λife™ community but I thought there was a topic already, instead I found nothing: how is this possible? None knows about this modification, or you aren't interested?

I've heard of it. Not especially interested until it can be played without Steam.

It can't be played without Steam because it requires the Source SDK 2007, which is licensed through Steam, and there is no way you'll be able to play it outside of steam, basically because Valve will never release the Source engine for free, and therefore none will be able to build a version of this mod which doesn't require Steam.
I mean.
Legally, of course!

The torrent seems to be dead, though it seems it was only just recently released.
So, it's going to take quite some time to get some permanent seeders.

I heard about this ages ago, back when I used to play a different source mod a week. I might look into it, reminds me a bit of half life source.

I had to add the trakers by myself: added the torrent in bittorrent right click on in and select properties, then the last tab and past there the "tracker" link I provided which leads to pastebin.
Doing this you should see some hundreds of active seeds, over 9000 (it's not funny) seeds, and over 30k peers.

My download speed was around 90kB/s so I decided to download it from a mirror, downloading @200k from one of sites that appears on the release page linked by IdeIdoom, I'll complete the torrent and share it when I'll leave the pc. Not anytime soon if I mange to download this by tonight.

Still downloading the torrent since this morning. Yeah, it's slow. :S

I've been following Black Mesa for a good number of years now, and even considered taking part in the competitions they had to include fan made content into the mod. So, even now, the wait's not bugging me too much.

About time it came out. Great news, now for the long wait of a download.
