1) Cheap deaths. Just playing the game and sudenly WOOPS YOU MISSED THE 1 SECOND QUE TO AVOID HAVING YOUR HEAD RIPPED OFF START THE LEVEL OVER

2) Levels that keep you on one straight path. Cant go left, cant go right, just go forward.

3) "YOU HAVE LEFT THE COMBAT ZONE GO BACK BECAUSE WE SAID SO"

4) When (loading......)

5) Regenerating health. Must i add more.

6) When you fuck up, you lose everything. Dosent matter if you saved or got the rarest weapon in the game, you lose it all.

7) NEVER ENDING FIGHT SEGMENTS.

And finally,

8) "GO GET ME 8 WALRUS NUTS AND I WILL REWARD YOU WITH SOME GOLD OR SOME SHIT"

I disagree, this is what keeps MMO's going.

Or even "Go get me this from so and so and I will reward you with gold" then "Oh sorry, I don't have said item, but I will be able to make it if you retrieve it from so and so (endless repeating)/general location." (ie: fetch quests)

I hate when they break the 4th damn wall for no reason. I want to be immersed in a game world and be part of it, then when they look at the "camera" and make a 1st grade joke, I take a step back and think, is this really happening?

It depends on what kind of fetch quest it is. Nethack is one big fetch quest (Go get the Amulet of Yendor, it'll be easy - I promise!), which is a huge quest that the entire game is about.
If it's something you'll have to do 500 times for trivial reasons then it's just wrong.

1.) Unskippable BORING cutscenes. - Call of Duty (But at least they weren't ALL unskippable) If it's somewhat interesting I don't mind too much as long as it doesn't last to long.
2.) Wander around for an hour looking for one place. (Doom-engine games)
3.) A weapon that makes other weapons worthless (LOTS OF GAMES)
4.) Walking down long paths without any combat. (Halo 4)
5.) Checkpoint save systems (Most modern FPSes)
6.) Instant-hitting attacks do too much damage (Source engine, Strife Templars)
7.) Easily predictable events (Doom 3)
8.) Bullet sponges (Doom-Engine games)
9.) Worse, fighting bullet sponges with weak weapons (Hexen)
10.) Unrewarding endings (if it's a bad ending that's a different case)(Call of Duty)
11.) Anticlimatic boss fights (Doom 2)
12.) Press A! Now press RT! Now keep tapping B! (Call of Duty, Battlefield)
13.) A weapon looks way stronger than it really is (Doom Chaingun, Strife Mini Missile Launcher)
14.) A weapon looks way weaker than it really is (Call of Duty, Battlefield)
15.) A sequel brings nothing new to the table (Modern Warfare series)

This is often referred to as a "blind alley", a situation where you aren't sure where you need to go or what you need to do next, and as a result you wander around for hours pressing every wall or looking for a key (in Doom), trying to use every inventory item (RPG's), and revisiting old areas in hope that something changed. The worst blind alley i've ever experienced was when I played through Tomb Raider 1 for the first time when I was like 12 or 13; the "Palace Midas" level took me literally a month because I had no fucking clue that the symbols on the locked doors corresponded with the order I supposed to press 3 switches.
TheMightyHeracross wrote: 7.) Easily predictable events (Doom 3)
Lolwut? Doom3 had me on my toes the whole time. Yeah, some traps were predictable, but some ambushes were pretty damn creative. (Remember that imp that jumps out of a locker as soon as soon as you open it?)
TheMightyHeracross wrote: 11.) Anticlimatic boss fights (Doom 2)
What exactly were you expecting? A 3D cutscene? Or if you're referring to the boss mechanics itself, I'm afraid there wasn't much that iD could have done at the time other than making a bullet-sponge monster with overpowered attacks, or make a boss that looks as if he's "embedded" or attached into the architecture of his lair (which is what they did, via a wall texture). Maybe this idea was inspired by the Aliens universe, whereas the xenomorph queen and her egg sac are attached to the walls of the hive? But yeah anyways, for a 1994 DOS shooter, don't expect bosses with "weak points" (other than the hole in the head, which is part of the map) or destructable limbs or health bars or anything like that.

DAMN THE WINCHESTER REPEATER! Making muskets useless and whatnot.......and don't get me started on that damn Gatling Gun.

Seriously though, when it comes to weapons I always refer to Peppy: "You've gotta change the weapon to fit the situation." Every weapon ever created was designed with either a single purpose in mind or a general one. This means that every weapon has a weak point or situation where it is rendered useless. It is also inevitable that it will be replaced by a weapon that is superior at its specific or general purpose. Game developers generally create weapons based on a standard in the real world or base the weapons' damage around certain enemies. They are then balanced by their performance compared to other weapons. This last part is usually where they screw up weapons, especially in shooters. It's difficult to make a good general purpose weapon that people don't immediately scream overpowered at while making weaker specific purpose weapons that people don't scream useless at. Then having a need for heavy weapons in your game requires you to have extremely powerful weapons to deal with powerful enemies or armor, which people never stop bitching about. So really, we the players are to blame for weapons being so screwed up in games most of the time.

To be fair if you troll players with putting unforgivingly just enough ammo amounts the experience shifts dramatically and they must plan which weapon to use -NO U WONT BEAT ENTIRE DOOM2 USING ONLY SSG-..

On the icon of sin.. Dunno about you but it was a wtf moment first time seeing it -was way too long ago-! I find it funny that when it was new people thought that fight to be too much unfair but now because everyone mouselook lame the boss they say its a crappy one... I still think a lot of people wont beat the icon of sin from TNT -hardest of the 3- without a mouse..

Beside the bosses and barons nothing really is a bullet sponge -maybe viles heh-.. Hexen's only annoying monster is the dumb as hell how the hell it got ingame centaurs and the heresiarch's armor lasting too much to defend a monster that cant even hit the player -and the climatic low hp makes him summon weakest monster in the entire game o_0-..

When the game tries to enforce it's pace for you. Sometimes going as far as outright killing you if you stay in one place for too long. Too long being fifteen seconds.

"OH GOD WE'RE UNDER ATTACK HELP HELP GOOD JOB PLAYER YOU HAVE DEFEATED THEM BUT WE HAVE NO TIME TO SPARE WE MUST PRESS ONWARD TO THE ENEMY TERRITORY MOVE IT MOVE IT MOVE IT AAAAGRH AN AMBUSH KILL EVERYTHING WITH FIRE GOOD JOB YOU DID IT WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE DOING THERE IS NO TIME TO EXPLORE WE MUST MOVE ON"

That's basically what kills later games of CoD series for me.

Hmm if they enforce everything with their insane cutscene count can just as well call them interactive films?

Make a game for a system (that's too new) that majority of people may not have (yet).

What are the chances of people wanting to move to Windows 8 to keep up with Microsoft Studios' games anymore?

Well, that's Microsoft's fault: XP was good, Vista was bad, and too little people switched, so DirectX11. Now, W7 is also good, so they are trying to make people switch to 8, avoiding a situation when people will use good, stable Windows for 10 years again. Money, dear boy.
