Holy fucking strawman. Way to imply that anyone disliking Win8 is simply mentally deficient, and not at all antagonized by Win8's abysmal CPA and inconsistency.

It's a piece of bloated crap. I refuse trading a system with a desktop with more features, for one that has a less featureful desktop and a metro interface, where it's apps require to run in fullscreen mode and when you close them, they aren't really closed. Yea I love multitasking and always will! But for cellphones I have to admit, it's very good, while stacking window managers are possibly crap in such devices. Also saying Windows 8 is good is just your opinion and nobody really have to agree with such statement. I think we have a draw here.

About the brain part, one word and an acronym: Gentoo, LFS.

Have a nice time trying those!

If you don't like what I said, that's your problem, not mine.I do NOT think anyone is mentally deficient. As for Gentoo an the other,at least I'm smart enough to admit I know nothing about them.So don't bother giving me any crap. When this forum member does his/her upgrade,I wish them the best of luck.

"Obviously you dont know what defines an OS for a computer."

That is the response you should expect from that post.

I have used Windows sinse 3.1 and that worked kind of the same way as all versions all up to 7 have worked. 8 just do not fit, it is designed for a phone.

If you dont think I know what I talk about or blablabla, then note that I write this post on a win8 computer.

Sooo.. Yeah. You might want to doublecheck your notes there.

Anyway, on to the meat.
porcelain echo wrote: If you don't like what I said, that's your problem, not mine.
Wow, what an attitude, he has a PROBLEM because of his experience and suggestion in a pc upgrade thread.. But let's continue.
porcelain echo wrote:I do NOT think anyone is mentally deficient.
So, you're NOT saying that the rest of us don't have brains by comparison...
porcelain echo wrote:I also have a brain.
... Oh! But that shouldn't matter if an interface is well made and intuit---
porcelain echo wrote:That is the most important part of using Windows 8.
... Oh!!
porcelain echo wrote:As for Gentoo an the other,at least I'm smart enough to admit I know nothing about them.
So, you having a brain is something special.. And while it apparently is not enough for you to know about them (read: Linux-based OS's), it IS enough for you to admit that you're incredibly smart . . . but not THAT smart?!

It's like front row tickets to arrogance, the personification, here. Almost every sentence in your posts are seething with unwarranted self-importance over an as of yet proven 'intelligence' due to someone having an opinion counter to yours - one that just so happens to be backed by not only the IT industry market AS WELL as the general IT industry media.

But please, go on.
porcelain echo wrote:If you still think it's a piece of crap, that's only your opinion, not mine.
I like the 'only'. It's almost as if it implies that anyone sharing his opinion is clearly a minority group, when said media...

Tell you what, let's wrap this with an apparently all important anecdote of yours:
porcelain echo wrote:I also just gave away 2 Vistas and a Windows 7 that were given to me.I offered to return them, but was refused. These people seem to like their Windows 8.
That's funny, because it seems that no one else does!
Apparently, your anecdotal evidence as to the awesomeness of Win8 is just that.. Anecdotal.

And let's finish this with the real stinger regarding your posting so far..
-Jes- wrote:[win8-disliking people are] antagonized by Win8's abysmal CPA and inconsistency.
.. To which you responded with... Nothing.
Cost Per Action. Inconsistency. Two very valid words your brain should know what mean, two very real reasons commonly declared the problem with Win8, and you had nothing to say??!

Far be it for me to point this out, but you're not presenting a very strong case here.
All you've done so far is indirectly call into question the intelligence of anyone who has not had positive experiences with Win8, without putting forth a single iota of hard, observably objective evidence as to why positive experiences with Win8 can be had in the first place.

So now that that's over and done with, my last point is to advise you to read this entire conversation again, especially focusing on your own posts.
Note how aggressive much of your posts' wording is, and how none of it is necessary (in fact much of it is directly obstructing) to prove a point.

ANYWAY... Since this is turning into a complete and utter dramafest, I suggest we get a split in here some time soon.

I still don't care what ANY of you say.I'm quite happy with MY Win 8,and I DO know my own computer. You know what though?Win 7 is pretty good.I just gave away the one I had to some one who needed it.Some of the people around who have recently bought win 8 are happy with it .they made their own choices.
Oh,yes, one last thing to think about.Would you call your grandparents or say an aunt or uncle stupid for liking say Vista or Win7 or Win 8?Or any older person?Because that's what almost what you are doing.Front row tickets to arrogance?Look at yourself first.Minorities?I'm not a minority in particular. That's why I asked if you would call an older relative stupid.I'm an older person. And brains?Actually I'm quite lucky I have some. And no,I'm NOT smarter than anyone else.I never claimed to be.
Brains again....hmm....let's see.Is it because I am an older person that you don't like what I have to say?Still YOUR problem,NOT MINE.
Last but not least Spottswoodes I really do wish you the best of luck on an upgrade or a new computer.

Old person explains that your posts´are nearly unreadble and without any Space after , and .
Also you obviously didn't re-read your post, when people tell you to, it usually got a good reason.
I'll PM an admin to split this.

I couldn't less of a dump if you were 5 or 50, the fact is that you continuously ignore ALL OBJECTIVELY FACTUAL EVIDENCE while spouting offensively charged nonsense about 'intelligence', all the while filling in the gaps with useless anecdotal "I gave mine away" chatter.

That says nothing about your age and everything about your personality - and it AIN'T pretty.

Not once have you actually addressed the fact that it takes MORE CLICKS PER ACTION to do anything even in Win8.1, not ONCE have you addressed the visual and control inconsistencies moving between Metro and the desktop (and indeed between Apps), not ONCE have you addressed any of the shortcomings that can found on the net by the thousands.

The simple fact that you're supposed to be over 40 and have yet to understand and respond to this is a SERIOUS OVERSIGHT on your part.

AND UNTIL YOU DO, you're not doing anything other than opinionated grandstanding as illiterately as possible.

Clearly not when you have to insult the intelligence of anyone who has an opinion contrary to yours.

You're a disgrace to your age.

Jesus, make sex not enemies, also, let´s go back to the author first question, Flamewar about operational system is a bad idea, even more because it´ll be the thread creator that will select the operational system and not you....

It's not really flamewar over OS, it's about porcelain's attitude that irked people out (me included), basically calling all people that doesn't use or dislike win8 is "brainless". But yeah, saying "I don't know nothing about win8" is lame, because I actually tested it and stated my reasons on why I dislike it, just re-read the rest of my post before hating, I will wait for a possible Win9 to see if they ever get stuff better there.

Anyway OP, if you are going to use the latest directx, go for win8 (or any piece of software that requires such).

I transitioned from a dusted Vista to Windows 8 gaming laptop. Aside from the limited metro screen customizability (that can be fixed with 3rd party programs), it takes a little getting used to. Otherwise, I find it fine. I don't do enough tampering with the actual workings for me to care enough about it.

this pretty much, i dont see why so many people throw a fit just because they dont happen to like the OS its almost funny and sad at the same time how a piece of software can make people so angry.

now back on topic, if OP realy wants to make a system that is upgradeable later on only thing he realy has to worry about is if the PSU is strong and reliable enough to last and support the later upgrades and ofcourse a flexible case in the sense that it is roomy and allows things like long graphics cards (trust me some gamer specific cards are quite long) and easy accesability.

What doesn't?

I've had some time to tinker with windows 8 over the last few days. I'm not seeing what the big fuss is about. I can see where the apps can get on people's nerves, but other than that it looks and runs a lot like 7.

I can always just get a bigger case for the motherboard if I can't fit the card in there, but most cases (save for many Dells, but hell, even Lenovo cases can fit most cards) should fit the cards.

If you´re going to intel i would select the haswell motherboard, why? because ivy and sandy are "old" and the haswell motherboards will support the next gen processors, so it´ll up the lifetime fom it.
I "think" the difference from i5 and i7 are mostly named and some 5% gain, I think if you want to save money, get a 3GHz pentium ivy bridge, it´s cheaper and it´ll do the work (sometimes being more powerfull compared to an i3)

EDIT:"Windows 8 banned by world’s top benchmarking and overclocking site"

the RTC api was changed, to be compatible with hardwares that doesn´t have RTC (tablets),...
This was documented almost over a year, so what? the software developers couldn´t even test it on windows 8 or at least read that it changed on documentations?
So blame the software developer not the OS, they couldn´t even test if it works fine on the new system,... (also I´m 100% shure it doesn´t happen on 3Dmark)
