Of course there's the matter of actually making your DLC worth it. What not to do: Oblivion's Horse Armor.

Speaking of DLCs; found this one on facebook. It gives some insights about the future of gaming.

RE: I really hate it when developers.....
Actually, a good point there. Remember when an expansion actually expanded on a game? Now you pay for "keys" to unlock content that's already present or was cut out only to be added later. I wouldn't have as much of a problem with the latter if it wasn't so blatantly obvious in some cases.
Credit where credit is due, Blasphemy made a similar point. Although, you have to ask yourself "if people are paying for DLC now, what reason would they have to stop?"

Well if you want to be literal yeah. But the term DLC started getting used once the value of extra content got reduced. Possibly so they wont be misleading as "pack" implies a significant amount.XutaWoo wrote:

This is not a metaphorical pack of potato chips we are dealing with anymore, this is a piece of a single chip.
People are fucking stupid. Even if devs keep exploring how much they can get away with and more people catch on, there's still going to be those people that will buy it. The kind of people who pay for stuff that you can get yourself just by playing the game.(games like diablo 3), the kind of people who pay for the doom equivalent of a skin, ect.Marcaek wrote:Although, you have to ask yourself "if people are paying for DLC now, what reason would they have to stop?"

I play the Sims 3...And most of the expansions for it cost more than the damn game.
And another thing...When developers make something real good and then have a family and RL shit. D:

RE: I really hate it when developers.....
Game developers are never done with their game. There's always something that they wanted to add or something that got cut due to space budgets... ahem... Spaaace Budgets.
Lots of day one DLC is made during the time between when a game goes gold (the gold master disc is made for production), and when you get to buy it.
I don't have a problem with that kind of DLC. The kind of DLC that sucks to me is when they bring in a few greenhorns to develop a massive DLC addition while the game is still being made. Inevitably a few experienced devs that would be making the stock game more awesome are pulled and put on the DLC/expansion team. Not only that, but the QA (testing) teams are seldom increased by the amount of new content they'll have to test so more bugs slip through.
What really irks me is the Project $10 crap that's aimed to kill used games: I get Bullet Storm brand new. My little bro. comes over to play, I go on a quick beer run. He unwraps the game and starts playing online, has to use some code in the box. I come back, he's telling me all about the cool features while he goes back to playing some PC games. I start up the game, get online, BLAMO, I gotta pay 10 bucks just to play my own damn game. We have ONE disk, only ONE of us can be online at once using server resources. This crap has to stop.
Screw you Epic! I've been a loyal customer, helping to fund your fame since Zork, Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jackrabit, One Must Fall, etc... Back when Epic still made MegaGames. It sucks but I'm boycotting this behavior. It should say on the box price: $60 + $10 per extra player.

I hate it when they make a game, put in half of a campain, and then charge you 20 extra bucks for the other half. (Resident Evil: ORC)
RE: I really hate it when developers.....
Why should that cost extra anyway?VortexCortex wrote:It should say on the box price: $60 + $10 per extra player.

Also Mass Effect 3's day one dlc is inexcusable. 10 minutes of forgettable gameplay isn't worth 10 dollars.

Let's not forget about over-hyp, and giving promises that are left broken when a game is completely finished.
What also really burns me is when they completely destroy what a series oof games used to be by introducing this meant to be new and improved setting to it.

RE: I really hate it when developers.....
1) Bad weapons.
This has two sub-categories: A) weapons that doesn't seems powerfull due bad looking or bad sounds (Resident Evil Operation Racoon City), or B) it even if having a good look and sound, they are just pea shooters. Halo is the prime example of this. It takes 40 bullets to bring down an Elite's shield, you need to reload and fire more 20 bullets to kill him.
2) White Knights
Modern Warfare 3 for example. When the terrorists are about to escape with the Russian president's daughter in the helicopter, the captain just say "No, don't shoot! You can hit her!". This is not just a bad cliche, but, come on, they could just explode the helicopter and kill the girl instead rescuing her, so Makarov wouldn't able to use her or anybody to torture the president to get the nuclear missile codes, but NOOO.. THEY WOULD PUT THE WHOLE WORLD IN RISK OF A NUCLEAR WAR JUST TO SAVE ONE FUCKING GIRL WHICH THEY ARE NOT EVEN GOING TO BANG AT THE END! ARE YOU KIDDING? I HATE YOU, USMC!
3) Unnecessary Invisible Walls
I don't know what kind of autistic kids are working on Epic Games that thinks that it would be funny to put an invisible wall in a 3 feet tall cliff, forcing you to take a ridiculously useless 2 step ladder that is very far from your current position, and doing it while there are 10 guys firing at you and you have no cover. You could just jump from this small cliff and take cover on that crates just ahead, but no, you must walk 15 meters completely without any cover taking all the shots, so you can use the stupid ladder. That's why Gears of Wars sucks... and because it suffers from item 1, 4, 5 and 7 too.
4) The last game was plenty of cool features. Why they removed them on this sequel?
FEAR 2 to FEAR 3, Black Ops to Modern Warfare 3, GTA San Andreas to GTA IV... almost every modern game sequel suffers from this.
5) Unskipable Cinematic Sequences
Need I say more? It's a fucking game, not a movie!
At least, the game should always let you skip the cinematic if you already watched it.
6) Repetitive Layouts
Halo, Doom 3, FEAR 1, Modern Warfare 1, and many others...
7) Look mom, It's scy-fi mumbo-jumbo!
I'm not against Scy-Fi Mumbo-Jumbo when they are used correctly, which isnt the case on the most modern games. Like in Gears of Wars, they have FUCKING NEON LIGHTS ON THEIR ARMOR!!1. They are all like "Hey, that's a nice idea! Let's use blue neon armor so the locust can see us coming at the night. They will get pretty scared! hehehe".
8) "Nice! Now it's acceptable to German and Australian censorship standards"
Unnecessary censorship just makes me rage. Okay, your game can live without showing human intestines every 10 seconds, but, do you REALLY need to censor words like Fuck and Shit with that horrible ear rapping sharp sound? Its hard to believe that there's still people on the 21th century that still gets offended by such simple words.
9) DLC
Who the fuck got this great idea of releasing incomplete games missing features, then asking for more money if the player wants these features? IMHO, I think this is a disrespect with the customers. I already paid for the game, I should get the whole game!!!
10) Lazy Difficulty Settings
Games that instead changing the way an enemy will behave in different difficulty levels, just increase the damage they deal to you, or reduce your ammo capacity, or make enemies harder to kill.

What did the United States Marine Corps have to do with FSB failings? Anyway...usually when this happens the writers are making a half ass excuse to draw the story out.Sergeant_Mark_IV wrote:

Most of the time this happens when developers switch engines. Although, when this is not the case, they cut some features to enhance other areas (*cough* Graphics) in order to "widen" the appeal of the game.4) The last game was plenty of cool features. Why they removed them on this sequel?
FEAR 2 to FEAR 3, Black Ops to Modern Warfare 3, GTA San Andreas to GTA IV... almost every modern game sequel suffers from this.
Okay, in the defense of Doom 3 and MW, when you make a place that is isolated or in a harsh enviroment, you would make buildings as close to identical as possible to conserve resources and effort. You might also have major outdoor hazards (especially on Mars) that would require specific building requirements. I'll admit that Doom 3 suffered from major Tunnel Syndrome, though.6) Repetitive Layouts
