Quake Live on steam
Anyone play it? How is it?
RE: Quake Live on steam
They said they would give an option to use steam when they changed over. Haven't yet...
Also lol the trailer is a frag vid. At least it shows gameplay i guess.
Shouldn't be any different on steam than not. Gonna take a look at it.
Edit:
Yep, absolutely no different than the previous standalone update besides it's run through steam.

Yeah, it's basically the exact same as the previous update but with better friend support. Able to join steam friends' games and stuff makes playing with buddies easier.
Not really a big fan of the loadouts or the Heavy Machine Gun (it's kind of just a weaker chaingun with less spread and bugged animation, it doesn't really stack up to vanilla weps in comp either from what I've heard). At least you don't spawn with much ammo, just 5 rockets if you choose an RL. Either way, it's fun enough to just fart around in. I'd imagine skills learned in Quake would transfer well to most shooters, so why not?

It's all to promote new players into the game is all. The only thing i don't like about the recent updates is the LG nerf, as, LG nerfed = me nerfed.

RE: Quake Live on steam
Yeah just played, seems fine. LG is really bad now though.
RE: Quake Live on steam
In the end of the day, it's still a Quake game, and with Steam it has more players to fight now and a pre-existing and more accessible friends system to use. Therefore, I'll take it over Call of Battlefield Modern Strike 7 for now.
The HMG (aka airsoft gun) seems eh, at best. I find it decently useful for mid-close range where it does a pretty good job as a Chaingun substitute where the LG is harder to use. A good SG, RL or LG will still shut it down at that range, though. I've heard of comp players trying to work it into their play, but having it just not work out and just going back to using the respective specialized weapon for whatever situation they're in. It's not as strong as RL up close, it's not as useful as RG at range, and it's not as powerful as LG at mid (not sure, but I think LG's post-nerf 120dps is still more than the HMG's). Doesn't seem to have made a big dent in higher level play. Now, the regular MG's only role seems to be just a weaker version that's in a Secondary slot. At least it still has a purpose as the only long-range hitscan Secondary.
Holding jump frankly doesn't mean much, strafejumping still reigns for speed. Just seta cg_autoHop "0" for yourself. Not much a fan of the "a little of everything" ammoboxes and loadouts, though I think that the powerup respawn timers at least teaches newbies about item control, and how to navigate the map and time your pickups properly.

RE: Quake Live on steam
It's still a really good game. A lot of the casual modes are more noobie friendly nowadays but that's not really a bad thing. The only issue I've had with the steam move was the flood of new players in duels. It's great there is a lot of new players but most of them join a duel and just leave after you frag em a few times. Still my favorite game though!
RE: Quake Live on steam
the new quake update is really good because I spawn with the super shotgun from doom and a rail gun instead of some shitty machine gun
