Ah a classic. StarTropics.

A story about a American baseball player who was armed only with a yoyo (later turned into a morning star) to save his uncle. A game (especially it's sequel) that pushed the NES to its limit and beyond. This is one of the few games that was made by Nintendo and was exclusive the the west (not sure if they made a version for the East). It also had kickass music.

Personally, I would love to see a remake that combines the two games into one giant game then a sequel. It is a bit of a shame that Nintendo lets this great adventure (Would it be considered action adventure?) series collect dust on their shelf of past series while Mario gets a remake practically every year.
(I would love to see Mike Jones in Smash as well. but knowing Nintendo they's just make him into a Ness clone)

Actually the grid format is what made the original work so well. If there wasn't any grid based movement then people would be complaining about falling into the water too many times. They did improve the grid system in the second game with 8 ways of movement instead of 4, but the 8 way caused me to fall into water a few times.

Yeah the grid did help for the most part. But all of my friends and classmates HATED its lack of 8-way movement (when a game like Zelda 1 did the same exact format). To this day, I can't figure out why Zoda's Revenge tanked so badly. It improved on the original in every way. We had 8-way movement; e had diagonal attacks; we had changing direction mid-jump. My guess is due to how late in the NES' life-cycle Zoda's Revenge came out, it didn't sell very well.

Well Zoda's Revenge was the last NES exclusive with the VERY last game being Wario Woods but that was a cross generation game. Zoda's Revenge was 2nd to last in the life cycle.

There were some illegally-made NES games made after WW, but WW is indeed the final, licensed NES game. Damn, now I feel like dusting off my emulator and playing Startropics (unfortunately my NES and carts are back in the U.S.).

I still say the spaceship level is some of the best music the NES has ever done. That, and Fire Emblem Gaiden are some of the best (or at least most impressive effort in) music I've ever heard.
