This is worse than just "Big Brother is watching", this is "Big Brother is watching and would like to sell you things".

More like I signed up for Big Brother's housecams for all my stuff and now I'm complaining that he asks if I would like to have a microphone and lamp to go with it. Computer traffic has been monitored since networking was invented and people are only complaining now that they have a 4 x 11 ad on their homepage that asks if they would like to buy a product based on that traffic. They complain since the companies have a name and face to put to the number. If you were complaining about the government snooping around your facebook or google + page looking for evidence, you'd have a reasonable argument because you did not consent for that activity. (The government also should be required to have case specific warrants for the cases where it actually looks beyond what a normal person can see with the same equipment, but I digress...) The fact that people willingly put all of their information over the public internet automatically disqualifies any complaint as to what they do with it. This is the same complaint that 20 year old girls give when some guy they never met creeps them out because they have a picture of them, that they posted on Facebook, on the wallpaper of their cellphone. If you don't like it, don't use it or use fake information. There is no compulsory process that is needed to identify you as a real individual. There is no difference between sTEVE_dA_kILLA_834 and Steven Dickenson in analytics as they don't really care who he is. The only use of this information is to try to give you something you want, and if they fail you can let them know that by not clicking on their links.
In short, nobody is invading your privacy or harassing you because you put all of this information out there. You are not required to use real information. (I don't for my facebook page.)

Now as far as them selling out: Money talks and bullshit walks. (This is like people complaining about the character Benny in RENT because he sided with rich people over the freeloaders. Benny is a fucking hero. Why? Because Benny decided he wanted to have money and do something with his time rather than shoot up, fuck, and get AIDS.) Just because something can be free of charge does not mean it should be: there is still an upkeep cost and a need for expansion. Youtube has more content on it now then ever before and it's largely because of its commercial prospects. Anybody can make a Youtube video and get famous. (JB) There are also occasionally talented people who get noticed over Youtube when they would otherwise not. (PewDiePie and Rucka come to mind.) Now there is the annoyance of ads before you can watch a video, I'll grant you that. But the overall improvement in the quality and content of the service greatly outweigh what it had been even 5 years ago.
