Old School Mac OS 9 Doom II Lan Help

#1

Post by macpast » Thu Jan 24, 2013 7:32 pm

Hey everybody! First off, thanks for keeping Doom multiplayer into the modern age; Zandronum is a godsend.

Now to my dillemma; I want to host a classic Macintosh Lan party, Doom II obviously included. Setting up a bunch of Os X & windows computers running zandronum & doomseeker would be easy enough, but I would reaaaly like to do it old school style, for nostalgia's sake. I have Doom II running on OS 9, on 400mhz color imacs. The CD-ROM installer had me install MacIPX as well for network play. Now what? Original Doom II mac doesn't have any multiplayer options built in, there isn't a setup.exe like there is for windows versions, no command lines for MS-DOS versions. Is this impossible on Mac Os 9 without old multiplayer services like Kali.net & DWANGO?

There isn't much trouble-shooting out there for Mac Classic Doom II multiplayer, so any help on this would be awesome

Thanks
Max

You can replicate complete old-school conditions in something like chocolate doom, maybe that'd be easier?

Well this is surely possible, but idk how to do that. Surely it is possible without any DWANGOs, I remember that there was a server program somewhere in Doom II directory.

Yet in worst case, you always can use Chocolate Doom. Chocolate Doom emulates exactly how Doom worked, but it works on modern systems. You should try it.
This signature is empty and useless, I would write another useless idiotism here but people will call me a noob for that, so sorry, no more signatures for you. Go somewhere else.

Found it,right on the doom II cd readme file: hold down "m" as doom launches to get multiplayer options. However! Chocolate Doom is awesome and works perfectly for a LAN as well on my MacBook. Thanks for the recommend !!
