If it were fine, there could still be controversy stemming from people's natural opposition to abrupt change. (Hey, you asked. )

I'm sure that, given time, we can come up with a more optimal name. But at this point it is more beneficial to have had the forums up and running at an earlier date.

Yeah, I'm still thinking startan3 is the best name suggested here. Abbreviates to ST, is doomy, and is easy to pronounce.

I thought the whole point of "forking" is to have no ties with the other port whatsoever, name included. [That means abbreviations, too. As far as I remember, Skull, Tag, and ST were not allowed]

Glad people responded positively to my shitty rendition of the idea in my head, I'll work on a refined version and post it

Bizarre name. It's a name I would probably come up with. It is unique, so at least you have that going for you. Although you inherit the port and community of Skulltag in function and content, it's interesting how a new name portrays a new start for a community. It's probably a good idea to go about things with a 'lets not screw it up this time' attitude.

It'll take people a while to get used to the name. I still think of Zirconium every time someone brings up Zandronum.

Hm. When typing that I had to look at the address bar to make sure I didn't misspell it. Whoops.

It's not bad, but a little difficult to remember.

I'll play devil's advocate here and point out that it would demonstrate a preference towards a specific game (Doom), and a specific level theme (techbase) that is not exactly the theme that was decided on for the website. And TBH I think it would feel funny to people who use STARTAN3 in their maps.

Referencing the game that the source port is predominantly used for was kind of the point.

I like it. It's not hard to remember, had it memorized since first day here, but you totally wouldn't guess it's a Doom Source-Port by name alone.

I've already seen some folks refer to it as "ZDN". Which kind of brings to mind "ZDoomNet". This doesn't seem like a bad thing at all.

I shorten it to Zan. This means that if I ever for some reason host a ported Zan Zan, I can call it a Zan Zan Zan server.

And you would with SkullTag?

Also, slightly refined version [Paint]. M is still kinda fucked up

Naming the fork after a texture? Might I suggest AASHITTY?

I have to agree with the critics, that Zandronum isn't the easiest choice. On the other hand, since it all comes down to personal opinions, I would say, stick with it and and continue with the more important stuff.

Zan wins easily. Everyone I know calls it that.

Wondering if a blue or yellow version of that logo should be at the top of the Space Blue series.

I didn't like the name at first, but as predicted by some of the Zandronum staff I have gotten used to it.
Ok, I still don't really like it, but you get the idea. :P

I only worry that it will prove difficult to remember. Much like how Vuze had their own previous name.

I'll never forget Azureus. That name brings back good memories.

Anyways. This morning I finally remembered the order that the syllables in "Zandronum" go in, so maybe there's hope for this new name.
