What is irritating to me is that some people here are judging Kilgore without even knowing or even talking to him. Sadly a good majority of the ST/Zan community here listen to whatever their friends tell them and will build up an opinion on a subject they clearly know nothing about. I mean look at that shit Alienoverlord just typed up... Really dude?

Kilgore is fair, but he is also strict. From my expereince if you keep in line with their rules you'll be fine, if you breakaway from that expect to be punished. Most communties online would follow the same procedures, if we didn't have any laws or rules, the place would be in chaos. Obviously people have had different experiences too but i won't go into that.

I was going to say "Read the whole thread" and then give you the following context, but then I realized that should know better: I see one of your posts right there on the first page of this thread! Here goes anyway: Zandronum's main page used to have a bunch of links to "Friends" at the bottom, which included Oda but not ZD. It's still there, but renamed to "Links" instead of "Friends." And ZDaemon is on it.

You probably meant Zandronum, because ZDaemon's coop is 10k imps + cyberdemons. It's called [LA] Space Station and is the only coop wad that was popular when I checked last time (~5 months ago).

So is something in my post wrong? What exactly is wrong then? Or you just assume that everyone who learned not from his own experience doesn't know anything and shouldn't have the right to express his opinion?

Kilgore is one to keep grudges, no matter who you are or what you did, if it upsets Kilgore, Raider or AF-Domains they will hold it against you until the day you die.

Thats normal. I would rage too if THAT happens to me.
And if that happens, no matter who you are, you should stand down, calm yourself, and then come back.
If not, maybe its wise for him to hire someone who CAN.
Most important for administrators and/or moderators is to gain respect, not fear.
Same goes for the community (users).

Yea fuck your case! [although I do agree with the rare amount of times I played on that port nothing really showed me the administration was absolutely horrible yet, but then again I stopped playing after the dumb password bs with the servers to attempt to prevent aliasing]

I do not know about you guys but I sure do not need to get to know kilgore to know that hes way over his head when it comes to his community.

I played some ZD ages ago before even finding skulltag and browsed the forums without registering. Lets just say my stay was very short. I did not mind the port, I mean it's old school (but now id prefer odamex since it is a bit more updated) but to know that you can get banned for the most crappy reasons as others did is what made me go find another multi-player port. They do not stick with their TOS well (or at all)

I agree Slyfox, obviously many people didn't get on with kilgore, most of them either playing in this port or odamex (judging by the reaction in this forum). But if you flip the coin, zdaemon still has a decent amount of players whom seem to be able to get on with the staff over the way they run their port, otherwise they wouldn't be there in the first place.

Being a lead admin/dev is by no way an easy job. On top of all the work load you have you're always going to have people that you will upset, thats natural for a situation like this. What i'm trying to say is a lot of people here might not like him, that is fair enough (although i think it's funny how people in modern society build up opinions about people without even talking to them); but ZD stil has a decent sized player base for what is an 18+ or spmething year old game. If he has been able to keep all these players playing their port, and has had in excess of a good 30,000 players since zd started, then they must be doing something right.

Although the spies thing does indeed sound like over exaggerating, I have to hand it to them for being that persistent in getting rid of the people who talk bad about ZDaemon. If I were them, I would put a bot in the channel that only listens, giving me the advantage of getting logs 24/7, but having spies is indeed better since people can mostly figure out when a bot is in the channel.

Well, if I try to think like them, I come up with this: It's better to take care of people who shit talk us before they even get the chance to do it in our zone. Because we all know the one reason they will come to ZD after hearing all that crap about it.

I'm interested in the actual number of people who got banned this way.
