I've been downloading some midis for my megawad project, I have a problem. The midis are pretty big. and I have no idea how to make them smaller. Typical size for one midi would be 3 megabytes. Any help?

Typical size for one midi IN ANY WAD is 60-100 kbs. But no midi I've ever seen has passed 1 megabyte.
I guess they are more songs on one midi, or hours long midis.

The megawad size at the moment is 99.6 megabytes with the midis rising it by atleast 25 megabytes. They're pretty nice midis but they're too big.. and I do not know how to decrease their size.

Uhh. You might be doing something wrong. Maybe, iunno. I don't really pay attention to the filesize of my MIDI's, i just assume they're insignificant.

If you can give me some of these videos and check out what you downloaded and see if you can probably extract them, that'd be great. (Preferably via PM)

lol youtube.

Youtube uses of course normal AAC Audio files and not midi ^^

Of course AAC audio is bigger than a midi file :)

You are confusing .mp3 files with .midi files.

youtube uses aac though.

It may have been a midi locally, but the video uploader did convert them to a normal audio file and youtube converted the audio file again to aac.

Oh and you definitely shouldnt compress them further.

I was gonna say that you would need pretty much all of vgmusic to reach 99mb

The biggest midi file I have is the "Dave D Taylor Blues" from Doom 2 (kind of surprised by that) at 80 KB

So... 99 MB of midi files would be about... 1,267 songs. That must be some megawad.

In all seriousness stuff like this...
phpBB [video]
The [video] tag is deprecated, please use the [media] tag
...is a midi file rendered in a video, some people give you mp3 downloads of their midi arrangement so that you can hear it in their soundfont.

You're not looking for stuff like that if you want to use midis like vanilla doom did. You want the actual .mid file, because Doom has its own soundfont (OPL through GENMIDI)

Hope that helps

http://en.midimelody.ru/ is also really good if you want to use non-VG music.

I would search for good midis in megawads like Hell Revealed and Memento Mori, they have some great music. I'm not sure if there's a way to download a video as a midi since that's a very specific thing.
