I'm making a DM map in Doom Builder for shits and giggles, and perhaps use. I'm not good with eyeing the lighting.
What would be a good rule of thumb for lighting shapes? For example, if I have an entranceway to a building from the daylight outside, how would I light up the entrance? If I have a square pillar with three sides giving off light, how would I handle the lighting there?

It's simple to do light, you don't need to do gradients (except for glows; not for intense light), all you have to do is to cast shadows on any obstacle that be in the middle of the light, and make sure the shadow is in the same angle from the obstacle as the angle between the light source and the obstacle. And shape the light source as the outline of the visible obstacle from the light source!
