I've been working with TEXTURES, getting used to it, I like it, but there is one thing I'm finding that's actually making me stop and think for a moment. It seems that TEXTURES is larger than TEXTURE1, since one is in a text file, the other is loaded into a doom specific lump meant for it.
I guess my question goes to, which one would actually be classified as better? Not in terms of file size, but over all.

RE: TEXTURES vs TEXTURE1/2
TEXTURES. It can do everything in TEXTURE1/2 and more, text format is easier to read and modify, and the size difference isn't significant with all the graphics and sound files that will be floating around.
RE: TEXTURES vs TEXTURE1/2
That is noted, one of the things I like about TEXTURES is how easy it is to modify it if there's a change, it also allows me to keep things in order.Qent wrote: TEXTURES. There is just one problem that I run into, and that's the fact that when I modify TEXTURES using the same interface as TEXTURES1/2, it screws up my text file into somethings horrible.

RE: TEXTURES vs TEXTURE1/2
That's because TEXTURE1 and TEXTURE2 are native to Doom's original formatting, and TEXTURES is a newer ZDoom feature that is not backwards compatible.Reaku wrote: There is just one problem that I run into, and that's the fact that when I modify TEXTURES using the same interface as TEXTURES1/2, it screws up my text file into somethings horrible.

I read those, considering I hang around the wikis a lot. It's mostly the fact I hit a conflicting thought and started second guessing everything, so I came here to help settle it.infurnus wrote:That's because TEXTURE1 and TEXTURE2 are native to Doom's original formatting, and TEXTURES is a newer ZDoom feature that is not backwards compatible.Reaku wrote: There is just one problem that I run into, and that's the fact that when I modify TEXTURES using the same interface as TEXTURES1/2, it screws up my text file into somethings horrible.

RE: TEXTURES vs TEXTURE1/2
I use slade3 for textures (when I actually do anything with a texture), I just click on the texture manager and it ask what format i want, then I just choose the zdoom textures and edit away.
