Best compression format for non-midi music?
One thing I like about modding with Doom is the ability to use other music formats besides MIDI, but this tends to increase the MB of the wad dramatically. So my question is, what is the best way to compress MP3, Ogg, and other sound formats for Doom projects without sacrificing quality?

Just mess around with the export options in audacity until you get a good balance.

Ogg @64kbps is a nice compromise between quality and file size, but I'm still unsatisfied with the file size.
However, I'm a newbie.

Using Ogg at lowest settings bring the file size down from 6MB to just under 2, and the music still sounds great. I can live with that file size.Luke wrote: Ogg @64kbps is a nice compromise between quality and file size, but I'm still unsatisfied with the file size.

Have you considered mod format? The files are even smaller than ogg, and you can go to http://modarchive.org/ to find examples of how great mod music can sound. The catch is that the music has to be made in that format to begin with.

well, I transformed a 10mb music into 1mb using ogg on audacity.
What I did:
-Stereo for mono (there was no difference on the music)
-Format:16bits
-the Frequency:16KHz
-Saved on Quality 0.
Of course you´ll loose quality for that huge filesize. And I recommend that saving in ogg on normal quality is fine.
Here you can compare the quality of the same music, one ´s 8mb and the other is 1mb.
