Zandronum

Hello Admins of Zandronum Master Servers.

My son played with a friend a few days ago, (8 years old and his friend 10 years old) and I dont know what they did, and now i can't play, when i connect to the master server, it shows me the message: Banned From Master server..

In banned list::
190.33.9.47: - Impersonation of ammar Sept 23rd 2013 - 3 months

1. Why would you EVER let your 8-year-old child play Zandronum?
2. How would he even know who Ammar is? How would he even know how to change his name?
3. Obvious lie is obvious.

In addition to Ænima's response, "why the fuck would you let a 8yr old play this", have you SEEN doom? I mean, not only are you a bad parent/kid, you are lying, maybe, out the wazzoo.

Take it easy. A parent letting their child play this game doesn't mean "Bad parenting" but this game is rated 17+ or 18+. It's not wise to let a child play this game without supervision. On the flip side, a lot of us were playing this game at very young ages so none of us can really speak.

That is your exact IP so it looks like your son and his friend got into some trouble. Generally, we ask that people do not use others names. We also ask that if said person is using someone elses name, that they change it, get warned if they don't then unfortunately banned for 3 months. I'm sorry, but the rules apply to everyone.

If your son and his friend aren't mature or old enough to follow the rules, or even read the rules, then it may be a good idea to supervise computer game time to ensure you don't get banned from anything else other than doom.

Uh I played doom when I was 3. I'm pretty sure it's not just me

I say it in that context because of how media views it now, and it is generally true. At least now it is, if you link it that way.

I don't see how it's generally true.

I've been playing Doom since around age 4 or 5 when my big brother let me play his SNES. Yes yes we all have "i've been playing Doom since x" stories.


But it's not the game itself that concerns me. It's the community. Do you REALLY want your impressionable children being exposed to the horrible people that make up most of our playerbase?

I played Doom many years ago, over LAN in the school, after I discovered Skulltag and it was wonderful. Now with Zandronum is a revival, when Skulltag is dead.
My XBOX 360 is waiting for me.

Yeah and even if it is true it shouldn't change things because it was on his comp and his responsbility, also anyone could try the "my child broke rules not me" line.

Well I think this is the first time I've seen "my son got me banned", it's usually "my brother/cousin got me banned", so I guess OP gets points for originality.


But it's only a matter of time before we see threads like "my dad used my computer to troll Zandronum servers, not me! please unban my IP!" or even "MY GRANDMA WALLHACKED, NOT ME!!!".

The first time i ever joined skulltag was in 2005 and i was 10 years old, and nowadays i'm still here at age 18, is it that hard to believe that young kids who have a passion for older games due to having a parent with a PSX or a Super Nintendo? And that that usually leads to them searching the term "Online doom" etcetera?

EDIT: IMO this person could be telling the truth, but he'd have to find a decent piece of proof to prove it wasn't him, but actually his son, and if he could prove it i'd say unban him, and if the same thing occurs again, feel free to ban him, because it'd be his own fault for letting his son on Zandronum.

yes I'm sure his son thought impersonating ammar's name and clan tag with perfect color codes to boot was just part of the fun of the gvh server he was on

Letting kid play Doom is OK for me, since it's just cartoonish 2d monsters, you don't shoot people (unless you play DM and shoot a cartoonish 2D dude which is just like you) etc. I wouldn't let a kid below 14-15 on servers though, because seriously, internet. And yeah, somehow this community is a lot scarier than people on other games I've played. Yeah, there's a lot of really nice ones but sometimes I feel like in one big terry's wad.

Is OP lying? Probably. Is there no Spanish-speaking mod that would be able to determine how sensible does this person sound? (From the other side, if op's english is really that poor, how would he get to know this ammar dude)

Calm friends, I played DOOM for the first time in my CPU 486 in 1994, because a friend gave me a disk with the demo. My son knows all about Doom, because he played with him since he was 2 years old, loves to play Zombie Horde and Ghost vs Human, changes his name with colors, because i taught him how do it. When my son was 4 years old, we played for the first time in LAN, and my daughter too. We all play since then we use the term "play with partners" when it comes to playing online.

Alright I guess I believe you now. But I'm not sure if the admins will repeal the ban. You'll just have to wait the 3 months. Or maybe talk to Metal, idunno. If this is a first-time thing then they'll probably be lenient. Next time, just make sure to supervise your son if he plays online. :p

It is a good punishment for my son.
I talked to him, and he confessed that he changed his name to annoy other players. He is very repentant, and i told him that the decision to return to play Zandronum was not depended on me, but server administrators.... And can play at Christmas.
