Well it was irony, i know zandronum is only about mods. Competitive scene is here almost dead or so dumb.

I was not implying that the main purpose of the authentication system is to resolve problems with range bans. I was just giving an example illustrating that the server admins are supposed to be free to decide what the auth system is used for on their servers.Danzoa wrote: No offence but half of the "Caught in a range ban" players are just Praef proxying etc.

Well, if nothing is completely decided about the system, then perhaps we could all throw around suggestions?
I for one think it would be nice if there were accomplishments to earn that got saved to our account. They could be for various things, such as getting 1000 frags or winning 500 matches. It would also be cool if you could see how many frags and flags they got, how many matches they won, and what Iwads they have played on. The last one is so it can be easier to look for people to challenge to a specific game if you really want to play it online and don't know whom has it.

RE: Potential Cheater threat
Last year I set up a community server admin channel, #GangsterSquad (inspired by #anti-hacks back in the Skulltag days), to help root out troublemakers or whitelist people when we revamped the master banlist to be more like other game's banlists (only ban cheaters; some games don't even have a master ban list).
That change was pretty much due to all the range bans for non-cheating offenses making tons of players get caught.
Basically treat the channel like #staff and don't idle in there, if you host a server regularly just contact an op or myself and we will halfop you. A few server cluster admins are already halfops there. This is a temporary solution to a long term problem, so this channel might not be around after some manner of login/whitelist system is in place. I will work with server admins on turning it into a place to manage community managed banlists and other stuff in the future.
I know that this has been discussed before, around when we started Zandronum:
