Summary | 0002360: Playlist support (enhanced maplist)
Description | Simple. Maplists only allow for one set of dmflags and one set of gametypes. Playlists are similar to Halo or Call of Duty playlists in that they are far more flexible in what they support. As the doom community gets smaller, I think it is a better idea for servers to pull double-duty and be able to play multiple gametypes, instead of being stuck on a single one. Attached is a sample commented "playlist file" that I cooked up in YAML format, though perhaps it would be a wise idea to use ZDoom's built in MAPINFO parsing instead. You would load this with a console command, and loading another one would replace the existing one. The playlist could either be played sequentially, like a maplist, or randomly.

Attached a draft of my own that should be more feasible to implement. I'm not too sure how custom entries should be done, but I guess something like this should be doable. Though a client then needs to know the playlists to a point. YAML is definitely a no-go, if we do this we'll do it with the existing ZDoom parser. |

Quote from DuskWhich things do you have in mind the client would need to know? |

The client should be able to show maps in the voting menu. ATM this is not a problem because there are no map rotation entries with different names from maps, so the set of map rotation entries is a subset of the set of map names. However this will allow the server to declare map rotation entries with names not shared with maps. So the client cannot know for sure what it can vote for. |
